The giant looks very sad. He is talking to himself: “I want a friend. Won’t anyone come?” Suddenly Jess sneezes1 loudly. The giant wakes up. He falls off his broken2 chair.

巨人看起来很悲伤。他自言自语道:“我想要一个朋友。没有人来吗?突然，杰西大声打了个喷嚏。巨人醒了。他从破椅子上摔了下来。

“Please will you be my friend?” the giant asks, “I never talk to anyone down here. I just sleep all day because I feel so sad. My name is Hugo.” Jess feels sorry for the giant. “I’ll be your friend,” she says.

“请你做我的朋友好吗?”巨人问，“我从来没有和这里的任何人说过话。”我整天都在睡觉，因为我觉得很难过。我叫雨果。杰西为巨人感到难过。“我会成为你的朋友，”她说。

It’s morning up in the flats. Everyone is surprised3 to see the bean root. “Look!” a man says. “There is an old castle down in that hole4.” Jess climbs out of the hole. “A giant lives there,” says Jess. “His name is Hugo. He is very friendly but he is very sad. We should help him.”

早上在公寓里，每个人都惊讶地看到了豆根。“看!”一个男人说。“洞里有一座古堡。杰西爬出了洞。“那里住着一个巨人，”杰西说。“他的名字叫雨果。他很友好，但他很悲伤。我们应该帮助他。”

At first, the people are afraid of Hugo. But they soon start to like him. They help him paint5 his castle. They cook him good food. Hugo helps the people mend6 their balconies. Hugo is very happy. He has lots of good friends. His best friend is Jess.

起初，人们很害怕雨果。但是他们很快就开始喜欢他了。他们帮助他油漆他的城堡。他们给他做好吃的。雨果帮助人们修理阳台。雨果很高兴。他有很多好朋友。而他最好的朋友是杰西。
