Hanoi National University of Education (Abbreviation:HNUE; Vietnamese: ??i h?c S? ph?m Hà N?i) is a public university inVietnam. Established in 1951 as the fourth university in Vietnam(after Indochina Medical College (1902), University of Indochina(1904), école Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de L'Indochine (1925)),it is now still one of thelargest higher education institutions in thiscountry.Its main mission is to educatehighly qualified teachers and science researchers. It also operatesa national high school to nurture gifted students, known as HNUEHigh school for gifted students.
Established in 1951 with the name: NationalUniversity of Science Education, the school was headed by Prof LêV?n Thiêm, the father of Vietnam's Mathematics society. In 1956, itwas merged with National University of Arts and Social ScienceEducation and renamed Hanoi University of Education. In 1993, theschool, University of Hanoi and Foreign Language Teachers’ TrainingCollege became the main posts for the establishment of VietnamNational University, Hanoi (VNUH). However, after some opinionswere sent to the Vietnam government suggesting an independentinstitution specialized in training teachers, the school broke upwith the VNUH and became the Hanoi National University ofEducation.
In 2008, HNUE was the host for the 39th InternationalPhysics Olympiad.
