卡洛林时期面西建筑和科尔维城坐落于威悉河畔（WeserRiver），北莱茵-威斯特法伦州城市赫克斯特尔的市郊，建造于公元822年至公元885年，历史久远。
在大面积被保存的农村遗迹中，面西建筑为唯一屹立不倒且历史可以追溯至卡洛林时期的遗迹，最初的修道院作为考古遗迹得以保存，只有部分被挖掘出来。这一历史遗迹利用独特的方式描述了卡洛林时期的建筑，是这一时期的杰出建筑代表。科尔维城的修道院始建于公元822年，是当时法兰克王国最重要的宗教中心之一和教徒的朝圣地。公元10世纪修道院迎来了它的鼎盛时期，修道院建筑的内部装饰精美，当初这里曾是法兰克王国的政治和宗教中心。

The site is located along theWeser River on the outskirts of H?xter wherethe Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey wereerected between AD 822 and 885 in a largelypreserved rural setting. The Westwork is the only standingstructure that dates back to the Carolingian era, while theoriginal imperial abbey complex is preserved as archaeologicalremains that are only partially excavated. The Westwork of Corveyuniquely illustrates one of the most important Carolingianarchitectural expressions. It is a genuine creation of this period,and its architectural articulation and decoration clearlyillustrate the role played within the Frankish empire by imperialmonasteries in securing territorial control and administration, aswell as the propagation of Christianity and the Carolingiancultural and political order throughout Europe.
