杉本贵志（Takashi Sugimoto）
1945年出生于东京都，1968年毕业于东京艺术大学美术学部工艺科，1973年成立超级土豆有限公司，1985年作为画廊间筹划指导委员，1986年成立春秋有限公司，1992年在武藏野美术大学担任空间舞台设计学科教授。
获得奖项包括：Interior Design Magazine Hall of Fame Awards，No.1KUKAN Awards，Infrastructure and Transportation Ministry Awards，Restaurant Design of the Year Awards，Mainichi Design Honor Awards等。
近来，由日本著名室内设计公司SUPER POTATO设计的多个商业及酒店项目陆续在中国开业，SUPER POTATO的创始人，已年逾古稀的杉本贵志（Takashi Sugimoto）的创作历程和设计理念也再次引发了人们的关注。杉本贵志是日本享有盛名的室内设计师，以设计餐饮及零售项目出名，他1945年出生于日本东京，1968年获东京艺术大学美术学士学位，1973年创立SUPER POTATO室内设计公司。杉本贵志从小对空间非常感兴趣，深受Richard Serra和Carl Andre两位大师影响，毕业后全心追寻并从事室内设计。杉本贵志设计过多种类型的项目，他认为设计的目的在于为人们的自然生活带来一些灵感与启发，他坚持设计应保持人与自然的和谐。
上海无印良品
在杉本贵志看来，当代生活与传统文化之间的矛盾在每个时代都存在，设计师应正视这种矛盾，他也坦言传统文化很重要，但设计应更符合现代人的生活方式。新近开业，由SUPER POTATO担纲室内设计的广州柏悦酒店，原木、金属青砖、石体等天然材料被运用于各处设计中，设计师将从岭南古城区回收的金属原件及废旧报纸等原材料进行了创新性使用。传统的木质窗格，精琢细刻的木雕墙面，装饰门楣，块块砌砖，传统岭南建筑元素的运用，体现了对传统的认知和尊重，摒弃了表面矫饰，完整地保留原味。无印良品上海旗舰店设计采用了木、铁、泥这些在很久以前就支撑起人们生活的材料，其设计理念试图将无印良品的产品，对祖先生活的记忆，以及今天的上海人三者并置于同一空间，诠释新的上海生活观。

虽然杉本贵志的许多作品强调符合现代人的生活方式，但其内心仍然保留着一份对原汁原味旧日传统的情有独钟。他业余喜欢游历日本的乡间小镇，享受旧日的传统美食，也很希望有更多机会参与修复历史名镇及旧商铺的设计。
因对空间的兴趣而选择室内设计
《设计家》：请简单介绍一下您的成长和学习经历。
杉本贵志：我1945年出生于东京，1968年在东京艺术大学获得美术学士学位，1973年，我建立Super Potato室内设计公司。我设计过各种类型的商业空间及场所，包括酒吧、餐厅、酒店以及商业综合体，获得过很多国际奖项。我同时也是武藏野美术大学的名誉教授，我的作品包括：柏悦酒店（北京、首尔、广州），君悦酒店（新加坡、上海和东京），凯悦酒店（日本东京和京都），香格里拉酒店（香港和上海）以及拉斯维加斯的贝拉吉奥酒店。我个人的出版物有：“Sugimoto Takashi no dezain hasso/hakko”、“‘Mui no dezain’ translated ‘Accidental Design’”、“Super Potato Design”。

《设计家》：您学习美术出身，为何选择做室内设计？
杉本贵志：当我还是一名学生时，我对空间就有强烈的兴趣。理查德·塞拉（Richard Serra）和卡尔·安德烈（Carl Andre）两位艺术家的作品深深地吸引着我，大学毕业后，我就开始追寻室内设计。
《设计家》：请简单介绍下您早期的设计实践。
杉本贵志：一间“草莓”店、“广播”酒吧、“帕舒”精品店等都是我20多岁时设计的作品。

设计的目的是为生活带来启发
《设计家》：您有怎样的机缘成立Super Potato？
杉本贵志：1973年Super Potato室内设计公司才建立起来，主要是为了改变当时的设计风气和观念。那段时间，我正在做西武集团的一些项目。其实与西武集团的合作很早就开始了，在它成立的早期阶段，我就已经为西武百货商店设计了许多项目。
《设计家》：目前事务所主要的项目类型有哪些？
杉本贵志：我们现在在日本国内和国外都有许多酒店的室内设计项目。在零售方面，我设计了无印良品的第一家店，最近，我们在中国又完成了一些新店，比如2014年开业的成都无印良品店，还有去年12月开业的上海无印良品旗舰店。在成都无印良品店设计中，我的想法是，那样一家品牌店，没有必要为了漂亮而做设计。对我来说，设计的目的是为了给我们自然的生活带来一些灵感或启发，在该项目中，入口处和咖啡厅兼餐厅里的木材，以及楼梯间的枝形吊灯扮演了这个角色。

《设计家》：请介绍Super Potato近来代表性的几个项目。
杉本贵志：欧洲格兰德酒店、出云荞麦面店“Nishikori”、RIGHT-ON MOZO奇迹城，无印良品上海旗舰店就非常有代表性，还有广州柏悦酒店也是很典型的案例。
《设计家》：您在设计中坚持的理念是什么？
杉本贵志：在设计中，我认为人与自然的关系才是最重要的。这种源于“Manyoushu”，一本日本的旧诗集（约1200年前编译）的表述是我学习的范本。

传统文化很重要，但活在当下更重要
《设计家》：您的作品不仅注重创造性，还注重融入地域文化和特色，您对地域文化与设计的关系有怎样的看法？
杉本贵志：我认为文化是非常重要的因素，在很长的历史时间里，传统文化确实很重要，但是活在当下更重要。
《设计家》：您认为设计师应该如何面对传统文化和当代生活之间的关系？
杉本贵志：在传统文化诞生的大背景下，每个时代都会产生矛盾冲突，我们需要面对当前的时代和已经存在的矛盾。
《设计家》：Super Potato何时进入中国做设计？设计的第一个项目是什么？
杉本贵志：我们1999年进入中国，在中国的第一个项目是设计位于上海金茂君悦酒店内的娱乐综合体“PU-J’s”。

《设计家》：您认为在中国做设计与在日本有何不同？
杉本贵志：在文化方面，我真的感觉中日没有什么差别。
《设计家》：未来Super Potato的发展规划是怎样的？
杉本贵志：我对于复原很久之前的历史城镇很有兴趣。时尚、现代、充满未来主义的画面是美妙的，但很久以前就已经存在的城镇和生活方式也是非常壮丽的，我希望能复原这些文化。
《设计家》：您个人业余的爱好是什么？
杉本贵志：我喜欢到日本东北的乡村小镇上旅行，并享受旧时代的传统食物。
《设计家》：其他您想表达的。
杉本贵志：我希望创造和复原一些城镇，在这些小镇中，有着历史悠久的商场和商店，这些商店与维持他们运转的人们的生活融合在一起。

Designer & Designing：Please introduce your major learning and working experience for us briefly.
Takashi Sugimoto：I was born in 1945 in Tokyo; after graduating Tokyo University of the Arts with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 1968, I established Super Potato in 1973. Design works for extensive types of commercial spaces/venues, from bars, restaurants, hotels to producing commercial complex projects were done. I had the honor of receiving the Mainichi Design Honor Awards two consecutive years in 1984-1985 and Hall of Fame Awards from US Interior Design Magazine in 2008. At the same time, I am an emeritus professor of Musashino Art University.

Designer & Designing：As we know that you graduated from the Fine Arts，why are you interested in interior design?
Takashi Sugimoto：When I was a student, I had strong interest in space. Richard Serra and Carl Andre fascinated me – and after graduating, I started pursuing interior design.
Designer & Designing：Please give a brief introduction to your early design practices.
Takashi Sugimoto：A parlor “Strawberry”, bar “Radio”, boutique “Pashu” etc. were some works done in my 20’s.
Designer & Designing：For what reason, was Super Potato set up? what stages of development had it gone through?
Takashi Sugimoto：Super Potato was set up to change the designs and views up until then. Since there were works to be done for the “Seibu Group” at that time, I have done numerous projects for Seibu department stores during the early stages of their establishment.
Designer & Designing：What are the major types of projects at present in your company?
Takashi Sugimoto：At present there are many interior design works of hotels both inside and outside of Japan – for retails, I have designed the very first store for MUJI. Recently there have been new stores in China; in the year 2014 a store in Chengdu has opened, and this year in December, MUJI Shanghai Flagship store will open.For MUJI Chengdu Flagship store ,my idea is that there is no need for beauty like that of a brand shop. For me, we design with the purpose of bringing a bit of inspiration into our natural lives. In the case of Chengdu, the wood object at the entrance and Café&Meal MUJI play those roles. The chandelier at the staircase as well.
Designer & Designing：Please introduce some of Super Potato’s representative projects at present.
Takashi Sugimoto：Grand Hotel Europe , Izumo Soba Restaurant “Nishikori”, RIGHT-ON MOZO WONDER CITY，and MUJI Shanghai Flagship store are the representatives. The Park Hyatt in Guangzhou is also an example.
Designer & Designing：What philosophy do you uphold in your designing work?
Takashi Sugimoto：In design, I believe that the relation between nature and human beings is most important. The expressions in “Manyoushu”, an old Japanese anthology of poems (compiled approximately 1,200 years ago), has become my textbook.
Designer & Designing：Your works show that you not only emphasize creativity, but also pay attention to integrating regional culture and characteristics into design, what do you think about the relationship between design and local culture?
Takashi Sugimoto：I think culture is a very important factor. It is indeed important as tradition in the many years of history; but to live our lives now is thought to be more important.
Designer & Designing：What should designers do when facing the relationship between traditional culture and contemporary life?
Takashi Sugimoto：In the background of the birth of traditional culture, there have always been conflicts with each generation. We need to face the present times and the conflicts that exist there.
Designer & Designing：When did Super Potato start design projects in China? Please introduce the first project which had been completed in China?
Takashi Sugimoto：In the year 1999, I have worked on “PU-J’s”, an entertainment complex in Grand Hyatt Shanghai.
Designer & Designing：How do you understand the cultural differences between China and Japan?
Takashi Sugimoto：I do not really feel difference in culture.
Designer & Designing：What’s your development plan for Super Potato in the future?
Takashi Sugimoto：I am interested in the revival of old towns from long ago. Modern, contemporary, and futuristic images are wonderful, but the towns and lifestyles that have been in existence since a long time ago are also magnificent. My hopes are to revive those cultures.
Designer & Designing：What do you like to do in your spare time?
Takashi Sugimoto：I like to travel to small towns in the countryside of Tohoku (North Eastern Japan) and enjoy the traditional food and dishes from the old times.
Designer & Designing：Any other ideas you want to express.
Takashi Sugimoto：It is to create and revive towns where the marketplaces and shops from long ago are fused together with the lives of the people who have sustained them.
