Seem 意为“似乎，好像，看起来”，仅能当系动词用，其后接形容词 (或名词），例如：
1）Mary seems very happy with her new boyfriend. (玛丽对她的新男友似乎很满意) － 接形容词。
2）Mary is seeming very happy with her new boyfriend. (误) － 不可使用进行式。
3）Buying a new computer seems a complete waste of money to me. A used one would be just as good. (买新电脑对我来说完全是浪费金钱。二手电脑就好了) － 接名词 (或名词短语)。
Seem 后面经常接“to + 原形动词”的不定词结构，或者接“to + have + done”的完成式不定词结构，来表示该完成式动作或状态比 seem 还要早发生或出现。例如：
1）She would always seem to offend people. (她过去似乎老是得罪人)
2）Teresa seems to know more about me than my wife. (泰瑞莎似乎比我太太更瞭解我)
3）Cindy seems to have gone out. (辛蒂似乎已经外出了)
4）The professor seemed to have mistaken me for someone. (教授看来好像把我误认为某人)
Seem 的否定形式有两种，—是将否定词放在 seem 之前，另一是将否定词放在 seem 后面的不定词之前，但意思一样。例如：
1）The president seems not to like the plan. (总统似乎不喜欢这项计划)
= The president doesn’t seem to like the plan.
2）They seem not to be at the dormitory. (他们似乎不在宿舍)
= They do not seem to be at the dormitory.
除上述外，seem 还有下列几种常见的句型：
1.There seem(s) to be 或 there seemed to be + 名词 (或名词短语）：
1) There seem to me to be two possibilities. (= I think there seem to be two possibilities.) (我觉得有两个可能性)
2)There seems to be something wrong with her. (她似乎有点不对劲)
2.Seem + as if/as though/like 所引导的从句
1）Dad seemed (as if/as though/like he was) tired. (爸爸好像累了)
2）It seems like their marriage is over. (他们的婚姻好像结束了)
3）It doesn’t seem like a good idea to lend money to John. (借钱给约翰似乎不是个好主意)
3.It seems 或 it seemed + that 所引导的名词从句 (连接词 that 可以省略)。
在此一句型中，seem 后面可接“介词 to + 人”来表示“某人感觉好像/似乎…”，例如：
1）It seems (that) he is a good guy. (他似乎是个好人)
2）It seemed to everyone (that) Linda was wrong. (大家都觉得琳达似乎是错了)
= Everyone thought (that) Linda was wrong.
对了，在 it seems 或 it seemed + (that) 名词从句的句型中，名词从句的否定词可以转移到主句中，即“否定转移），例如：
It seems that they don’t know how to deal with the situation. (他们似乎不知道如何处理这种情况)
= It doesn’t seem that they know how to deal with the situation.
It seems (that) Peter can’t come. (彼得好像不能来了)
= It doesn’t seem (that) Peter can come.
