still 和 yet 作副词都可表示“还”,但两者的用法却有很大的不同。
still 意为“还,仍然”,表示某行为、条件或状态继续发生或存在且没有变化,用于肯定句或疑问句,通常位在句中的位置。例如:
1.Are you still working for the same company? (你还在同一公司上班吗?)
2.Do you still play online games? (你还玩线上游戏吗?)
3.They were still having dinner when I arrived. (我到的时候,他们还在用餐)
4.When I came home at midnight, she was still doing her homework. (我午夜回家时,她还在做功课)
Yet 当副词用时意为「还 (没)、尚 (未);直到此时」,表示某行为、条件或状态应该马上出现或发生,但却没有出现或发生,用于现在式或现在完成式的否定句或疑问句,通常置于句末;但在 “have yet to do sth.” (尚未…;还没…) 这一固定用语中,yet 则置于句中。例如:
1.Has Peter applied for a visa yet? (彼得申请签证了吗?)
2.All of us haven’t had lunch yet. (我们所有人都尚未吃午餐)
3.The sun has not risen yet. (太阳还没有升起)
4.Robert has yet to go on a business trip to China. (罗伯特尚未去中国大陆出差)
值得一提的是,yet 还可当连接词用,连接两个单词、短语或句子,表示“然而,却;可是,但是」。例如:
Tony studied hard, yet he failed in the exam. (托尼很用功,但考试仍不及格)
