SAT testing dates have been modified for the 2017-18 academic year: the January testing date is gone, and an early August test date is now available. This should be good news for most college applicants. The January date was never very popular, and now applicants have more options for senior year that work when applying to a college Early Decision or Early Action. The new August date also has the benefit that for many students it is administered before the stress of the academic year begins.
U.S. students have seven testing dates to choose from for taking the SAT in the 2017-18 admissions cycle. If you're a high school senior, you may need to take the August, October or November exam in order to get your applications completed on time. If you're a high school junior, the winter and spring test dates are a good choice if you want to see how well you perform. If your scores aren't what you think you'll need for your top-choice colleges, you'll have the summer to build your test-taking skills and retake the exam early in senior year.

If your family's income makes paying these testing fees prohibitive, you may be able to qualify for an SAT fee waiver. You can learn more about fee waivers here at the SAT web site.
