英译汉翻译技巧（1）|同位语的处理

英译汉时处理同位语的六种技巧：

1.处理为主谓结构

原文：They are staying at Beidaihe, a summer resort in Northern China.

译文：他们现在在北戴河，它是华北的一个避暑胜地。

分析：在同位语“a summer resort in Northern China”前增加“它是”形成一个主谓结构。

2.处理为前置定语

（1）同位语较短时

原文：Then arose the question where we were to find more food.

译文：接着就产生了我们到哪里去找更多食物的问题。

分析：同位语从句where we were to find more food被译成“我们到哪里去找更多食物”，作“问题”的定语。

（2）表示身份、特征、性质

例1:

原文：At one extreme, Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University, says the smartphone has radically changed the lives of the generation of American children born between 1995 and 2012, wherever they live and whatever their background.

译文：在一个极端，圣地亚哥州立大学的心理学教授珍·特温格（Jean Twenge）认为，智能手机彻底改变了1995年至2012年间出生的美国一代儿童的生活，无论他们身在何处，背景如何。

分析：“a psychology professor at San Diego State University”是对Jean Twenge身份的补充说明，故将其前置翻译为“圣地亚哥州立大学的心理学教授”。

例2:

原文：Climatempo, a popular private meteorology website, reported that a cold front brought low-lying clouds which then combined with smoke to form the thick black smog.

译文：据巴西著名天气电视频道Climatempo报道，冷锋过境，带来低云，低云与烟雾结合从而形成浓浓的黑烟。

分析：“a popular private meteorology website”是“Climatempo”的同位语。

3.用“破折号”隔开

原文：And there was the possibility that a small electrical spark might accidentally bypass the most carefully planned circuit.

译文：而且总有这种可能性——一个小小的电火花，可能会意外地绕过了最为精心设计的线路。

分析：译文在“可能性”后用“破折号”隔开。

4.用“冒号”隔开

原文：It was from these slender indications of scholarship that Dr. Weldon drew the conclusion that I was worthy to pass into harrow.

译文：正是从这可以表明我学识的细微迹象中，韦尔敦博士得出结论：我有资格进入哈罗公学。

分析：该句译文跟原文有一定的相似之处，只是原文在名词后用that引出同位语从句，而译文在“结论”后用冒号引出分句。

5.增加“即”

原文；But it ignore the fact that,though pilots, we potentially were in as much danger of capture as any covert agent.

译文：但却忽略了这一点，即我们虽说是驾驶员，却和任何潜伏的特务一样有被俘的危险。

分析：在that后断句，增加“即”，将同位语从句独立成句。

6.处理为顶针结构

原文：I made a decision to be a interpreter.

译文：我做了一个决定，决定成为一名口译员。
