Invictus  不可征服

Out of the night that covers me, 透过笼罩我的夜色，

Black as the Pit from pole to pole. 我看见黑暗层层叠叠。

I thank whatever gods may be, 感谢上帝赐予我，

For my unconquerable soul. 不可征服的灵魂。

【背景】

    该诗的作者为威廉.亨利（William Ernest Henley）。亨利在12岁时罹患骨结核病，数年后该疾病蔓延到腿部，医生宣布拯救他生命的唯一办法是截肢。手术在他25岁时进行，他在病床上写了这首诗。尽管残疾了，但亨利凭借坚强的意志积极生活，直到53岁去世。

    这首诗也是纳尔逊.曼德拉在服刑期间的精神支柱。在狱中关押了二十七年的曼德拉，在诗中寻到了生命的真谛。
