Statement
Yue-Yuan Courtyard,located in Suzhou, showcases a landscape expression of modern architectural motifs combined special granite installation, while it tries to reflect thelocal culture, Suzhou classic garden. The landscape strategies have not been focused on simple visual representations of a local traditional garden, but abstracting the natural elements in a distilled expression. The most significant innovative design is the water feature sculpture integrated within thelandscape skillfully, expressing the region’s distinctive natural character, based on a high completion-ness construction.

苏州樾园，尝试运用当代材料与工艺对苏州古典园林进行现代演绎。景观设计没有停留在对古典园林的浅层视觉呈现，而是通过对自然元素的抽象表达，传达更多言外之物。最为核心的创意是与景观密切结合的雕塑水景，以极高的施工完成度巧妙地与环境相融合，创造了一个独具特色的现代文化景观。

The programming and design choices for Yue-Yuan Courtyard, located in Suzhou,was inspired by artistic conception originated by Suzhou classic garden.
樾园的设计源自对苏州古典园林经典美学的再理解。
Water feature as the critical element in Suzhou classic garden is a visual connection to the site’s context,connecting twomain parts of Yue-Yuan Courtyard, Creekgardenand Lakegarden. The visitor experience begins with Creek garden inspired by creek waterway. The water feature produced out from granite monolith artfully simulates the natural hydrological processes how runoff goes through the surface for hundreds of years and transforms the land into a rivervalley. When the creek is filled with water, it becomes a curved reflectingpool with scenery-borrowing which is an expression of the Yangtze River andever-changing sky.
水景作为苏州古典园林的重要元素，在樾园中作为一条场地的视觉主线，连接了两块核心区域——“溪院”与“湖院”。访客循着蜿蜒浅溪进入“溪院”，主题水景通过对整石花岗岩纹理化的精巧加工，巧妙地象征了山川河流历经千百年的奔流不息，将平坦的陆地侵蚀成河谷的过程。当浅溪蓄满水，形成一个曲形镜面倒影池，既暗含了长江的形态寓意，也借景瞬息万变的天光云影。
A single curved reflecting pool carved generates a tranquil, as well as meditating atmosphere together with the light, poured into the central garden, the shadow from the surrounding building and the sound of water falling from the creek. At the end of the creek, water flows into another reflecting pool that is the main featurein the Lake garden. Simple, yet highly artful, the imaginative coexistence withthe flow and tranquil in this small courtyard with the area less than 1,000sq.m. is harmonious.
这条有如从地面雕刻出来的折形倒影池，结合建筑中庭投射的光影与潺潺溪流声，营造出了一片静谧、冥思的空间氛围。浅溪的尽端，溪流最后汇入作为“湖院”主景的另一个倒影池。动与静的体验经过简约巧妙的处理，在这个不到一千平方的庭院里达成了理想的融合。
Actually, one of the most challenges is how to integrate complex and curved water feature sculpture into the landscape smoothly in this courtyard. With a collaborative effort from the landscape architects and craftsman from an art workshop, this variable sculpture has been made into many segments in manufacturing and processing separately,and then installed carefully on site. Finally, elegantly styled sculpture seemsto harmony with the surrounding environment when it completed.
在施工过程中，最大的挑战是如何将这个复杂的曲线水景雕塑与景观无缝衔接。在景观设计师与艺术工作室的成员的同心协力下，形态复杂的水景石雕被分成数个片段分别加工和制作，最后在现场进行细致组装。最终使水景雕塑与周围环境形成了和谐与统一。
Different to Suzhou classic garden, the minimalist palate of plants and stone expresses adistillation of the materiality and plantings of the contemporary garden. The distinct landscape is translated through different mediums such as water, rock,and living materials. Harnessing the dynamic environmental context, the courtyard design registers the sunrise, sunset, and rain. You would walk upon this and know that you are in a different space because of the way it’s modern detailed, and the strip of granite with the engraving is beautiful.
不同于传统的苏州古典园林，樾园通过极简的植物配置与石材的运用，体现了当代景观设计对材料处理的精炼。樾园景观的独特性来自于对水景、石材、植物等景观元素的挑选和运用。置身庭院中，流转的光阴、更替的晴雨与景观空间的动态呼应，结合现代感的细节与花岗岩石刻上的流畅曲线，营造了一种截然不同的空间体验。
