It was created as a training game for armies, allowing soldiers to practice their riding skills and attack moving objects. The sport spread from the Middle East to other parts of Asia.

Polo first appeared in China during the Eastern Han Dynasty, but was most popular in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.), where it was played by 18 of the 22 emperors and can often be seen in paintings and statues from that era. However, the sport was reserved for the elite and almost disappeared in China. But with the country's recent economic boom, polo is seeing a comeback as more people have the means to enjoy it.

CRI's Yang Yong visited the Tang Polo Club in Beijing to find out what's driving Chinese people to get into the game.
