Where Did the Term Flea Market Come From?

关於『跳蚤市场』这个名称的由来众说纷纭，不过主要可归纳出三个常见的说法，其一就是从法文的marche aux puces而来。据说在中世纪时，法国巴黎圣母院旁有个小小的市集，专卖皇室不要的旧衣物，该处後来因为跳蚤肆虐而被迫搬迁到他处，因此跳蚤市场的称号不胫而走。
第二种说法则是在十九世纪後半叶，当时巴黎正进行现代化改革，许多旧街道被拆除，导致街上的旧货商纷纷走避。『走避』的法文为fuir，也就是英文的flee之意，而flee又音同flea，故得此名。
也有人说跳蚤市场是出自於十八世纪的纽约市集，当时被称为fly market，荷兰人则称之为vlaie，其发音近似flea所致。不论跳蚤市场的名称由来为何，它们总是能让大家买到便宜划算的东西，并且满载而归。
