So often the social media discussion revolves around marketers, but there’s another group of highly influential leaders in the business world: Chief Information Officers. There are CIOs and IT leaders in every industry and these leaders turn to social media to connect with up-and-coming talent, and keep up with the latest trends and innovations in technology.
To wit, Leadtail and Robert Half Technology teamed up to analyze the Twitter accounts of more than 500 technology leaders to answer three primary questions:
Cloud computing, big data and the Internet of Things are primary topics for technology leaders. Indeed, tech leaders use Twitter to showcase their expertise and both drive the conversation as well as actively engaging with content from other leaders.
The list of brands and publishers retweeted the most by technology executives include some of the usual suspects including Forbes, Fast Company and the Harvard Business Review. Wired was among the top 25 publications followed by CMOs, but ranked much higher for CIOs. In fact, the top 20 brands and publications among tech leaders are decidedly tech focused.
Likewise the people most mentioned by technology executives are also technology thought leaders. Huffington Post contributor and CMO of Extreme Networks, Vala Afshar, topped the list of most mentioned people. Second on the list: entrepreneur, software engineer and technology futurist Marc Andreessen.
