In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.
One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and
– pop!- out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
He started to look for somefood.
On Monday he ate through one apple.
But he was still hungry.
On Tuesday he ate through twopears,
but he was still hungry.
On Wednesday he ate throughthree plums,
but he was still hungry.
On Thursday he ate throughfour strawberries,
but he was still hungry.
On Friday he ate through fiveoranges,
but he was still hungry.
On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake,
one ice- cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese,
one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie,
one sausage, one cupcake and one slice of watermelon.
That night he had a stomachache!
The next day was Sunday again.
The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf,
and after that he felt much better.
Now he wasn’t hungry any more-
and he wasn’t a little caterpillar any more.
He was a big, fat caterpillar!
He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself.
He stayed inside for more than two
weeks. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon,
pushed his way out and ….
he was a beautiful butterfly!

现在他一点儿也不饿了——他也不再是一条小毛虫了。
他是一条胖嘟嘟的大毛虫了。
他绕着自己的身子，造了一座叫做“茧”的小房子。
他在那里面呆了两个多星期。
然后，他就在茧壳上啃出一个洞洞，钻了出来......
他已经是一只美丽的蝴蝶了！

1. Make Day of the week cards
Food cards
制作下面两种卡片 每天和食物卡片，如下图
2. Practice the sentence 练习下面句型
-- 'On ___, he ate through [number] [food], but he was still hungry.
3. Role play the story 角色扮演这个故事吧（适合孩子多的情况）
Distribute the days of the week and the food cards.
分配每日卡片和食物卡片给不同的孩子
Perform your story once with the teacher reading all the parts, pointing to the children wearing the cards when it is time for them to stand.
当老师读故事的时候，让读到的孩子们嘴巴起来。
Then, perform the story again. This time, the teacher reads the first page, and all the pages following 'the stomach ache'. The children are
to chant the refrain shown above -- 'On ___, he ate through [number] [food], but he was still hungry.' You may need to cue them.
然后，再次演绎这个故事，这次老师读故事的时候，孩子们可以跟着重复，在星期几，它吃了多少什么样的食物这个句型。
Repeat your story multiple times. You can redistribute the food and day cards. Our objective is to have as many children joining in the chanting as possible.
不断的重复这个故事。每次都在分配手中的卡片。我们的目的是让孩子们尽可能地加入到这个故事中来。
2. Make Life cycle cards
1. Ask the children to tell you the story of the very hungry caterpillar. Then ask them if they think caterpillars really eat pieces of cake, swiss cheese, salami, etc.
让孩子们讲述这个故事。问她们毛毛虫真的会吃蛋糕、奶酪等吗？
2. Use the life cycle cards. Be sure to use the word chrysalis instead of cocoon. Explain that, although The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a story that Mr. Carle invented, much of his story is based in truth.
利用上面的卡片，告诉孩子们蛹是什么，告诉孩子们，这本书的大部分都是真实的哦。
3. Read what Mr. Carle has written about his choice of using the word cocoon.
告诉孩子们什么是茧。
4. Tell children that during the spring, we will hunt for our own caterpillar. If your class finds one, you can keep it in a glass jar, making sure it has leaves. If you are lucky, it will spin a chrysalis and turn into a butterfly! You and your children can be scientists all spring long, making daily entries in a class log that tell what your very own caterpillar is doing.
告诉孩子们春天的时候，可以出去寻找毛毛虫哦。如果找到了，把它放在玻璃瓶里，确保它有足够的叶子吃。幸运的话，你能看到它结蛹变成蝴蝶哦。
