The earliest people of new zealand, themaori ,came from the island of polynesia in the pacific, which means” manyislands”.In maori history, the first traveler to reach new zealand in the year950 was a man called Kupe.He named the country AO-tea-roa,Which means “Mhm.theland of the long white cloud.”Following this Discovery, many islands traveled 3500kilometers .by sea in their narrow boats to this new country between 1100 and1350.They took with the dogs, rats and plants like the sweet potato ,andsettled mainly in North island where the weather was warmer.As the maori had nowritten language, the stories of modern history we are handed down fromgeneration to generation.
By 1840 about 2000 europeans, mainlyBritish, had come to settle in new zealand and the Maori signed an agreementwith these settlers.However, in later years, there were Fierce arguments overland rights and many battles were fought between the settlers and the maori.Asa result of these words and diseases,The Maori population fell from 100000to 42000.Their population has no increased to 435000 and today they makeup about 13 % of the population.
New zealand is also home to about 170000pacific islands from oceania who have settled mainly in auckland in Northisland.Both maori and pacific islands are encouraged to use their ownlanguages.The language which the more we speak is related to the languages ofTahiti and hawaii.Today there are special kindergartens for more children andthe movie language is now taught in more and more schools.You can also take adegree in maori or madrid studies at five of the country's universities.

When someone dies, all the relations oldand young come to the marae for the Maori burial service.Maori believe that thespirit stays with the body for three days. So during this time someone alwaysstays with the dead person.Many people will sleep and eat on the marae duringthese days and share their memories of the dead person.

.Most of the cattle farming is in Northisland.Sheep farms are formed on the more healy songs island.There are about 50million sheep in new zealand ,about14 sheep for every new zealander.Themain export of the country are wool, lamb, beef, butter, forest products, fruitand vegetables.Ships carry live sheep to markets in the middle east where theyare killed at festivals.Some farmers have turned to keeping dear. And there arenow about 3000 deer farms in the country.The deal are farmed for the meat andfull, which are then shipped to many other countries.Goats are also kept.Apart.from their milk, the wool from their coats is used in expensive clothing.Newzealand wine is of high quality and is sold all over the world.
Sports and Free time
.Living in a country with plenty of spaceand a good climate,New zealanders love all kinds of sport.In summer people liketo go sailing, swimming, house driving, and rock climbing in the mountains.Themain school holidays are from mid December to early February when the days arelong and warm.Many families spend this time at the cottage by the seaside or gocamping in the hills or on the coast.
Natural beauty.
New zealand with its nature, beautymountains, rivers and national parks, attracts the tourists from all overthe world.North island is famous for an area of hot springs, some of whichthrew hot water high into the air.Some of this heat near the earth's surface isused to make electricity.
Wild life.
As in Australia the first settlers foundmany strange birds and animals that exist nowhere else in the world.Some typesof Birds cannot fly.This is because they had no nature enemies until thearrival of humans and therefore did not need to develop flying wings.The kiwi ,whichis new zealand’s national bird ,is one of these types of Flightless Birds.
