第一章 设计的疑问

牛津词典对设计（动词）的定义：

To form a plan or scheme of, to arrange or conceive in the mind . . . for laterexecution.

英国作家、编剧Dorothy Sayers将创作过程分解为三个不同的阶段：Idea, the Energy (orImplementation), and the Interaction, that is,

1. The formulation of the conceptual constructs 构思

2. Implementation in real media 实施

3. Interactivity with users in real uses 与用户互动

When the IBM System/360 “mainframe” computer family’ssingle architecture was being developed (1961–1963), such an entity was alwayspresent in the architecture group, although never named. Exploiting GerryBlaauw’s brilliant insight, we had explicitly separated the System/360 designactivities into architecture, implementation, and realization.The basic concept was a computer family with one face to the programmer—thearchitecture—and multiple concurrent implementations at various positions onthe performance and price curves.

System/360的设计活动明确地分为架构、实施和实现三个阶段。这么做的基本理念是计算机家族对程序员呈现统一的接口，也就是同样的架构（体系结构），相同的体系结构可以根据性能和架构的需要开发出不同的机型。

伟大的设计都具备概念完整性-一致，经济，简洁。//概念完整性是架构设计的第一要素，作者是坚定的认为总体设计任务不可分拆，即使有时需要一个架构师团队，但是主架构师只有一个。

First, great designs have conceptual integrity—unity,economy, clarity.

其次，经常提及设计理念，对于设计团队的内部沟通也是很有帮助的。要实现概念一致的目标，只有通过大量的对话交流。

Second, talking frequently about the Design Concept assuch vastly aids communication within a design team. Unity of concept is thegoal; it is achieved only by much conversation.
