Concise and Clear Wording Makes Writings Shine
光彩闪耀于凝练明了的文字之间。陈子昂（659—700）认为文字凝练明了即可使文章光彩闪耀，因此他极力反对过度铺陈和反复修饰。他认为过度铺陈和反复修饰会淹没兴寄，而主旨不突出就不可能显出文章的风骨。这与他强调兴寄、风骨的观点是一致的，表明他倡导刚健明朗之美，反对绮靡纤弱的文风。
Chen Zi'ang (659-700) believed that concise and clear wording makes writings shine, and he strongly opposed excessive exposition and repeated ornamentation. He held that this would drown out the purpose of the article and that if an article's main theme is not manifest, it would lose its appeal. This is in line with his emphasis on expressing the theme and character of an article and his call for a writing style whose beauty lies in its strength and clarity, as opposed to a style that was flamboyant and weak.
