时间过得总是这样快。How time flies.从来未曾想过，逾百年的岁月，在别人眼中或许感慨，可于我不过是白驹过隙，弹指一挥间。这之中，我笑过，哭过，骄傲过，委屈过甚至抱怨过，但没有放弃过，于是今天，我还在这里。他们说，这简直是奇迹。I have never thought that more than a hundred years, so long that seems out of imagination to everyone, would be just like a fleeting glimpse at history for me.In this period, I had memory of sorrow and happiness, pride and glory, sometimes even complaints and grievances. But, never a second had I thought of giving up. That’s why I still stand where I stood today. That’s why they say, it’s a miracle.我说，这才不是奇迹。这仅是一份不敢辜负的心意。竢实扬华这四个字，承载了这份心意的全部光荣，我未敢忘记。It’s not really a miracle. For me, it’s a spirit that ought to live up to, for which the“ Si Shi Yang Hua ”,conveying all of those glory, will never be forgotten.
1916年，因学生茅以升和王节尧的试卷论文，我在全国专门以上学校学生成绩展览评比中拔得头筹，除优秀奖状，范源濂总长更是亲笔题写“竢实扬华”匾额一方赠予。In 1916, Mao Yisheng and Wang Jieyao，two students of mine，got the first place in the national college and university student’s academic performance display and competition with their papers. For that I was awarded a certificate and even a horizontal board of “ Si Shi Yang Hua ” which was inscribed by Fan Yuanlian，the minister of education.
等待今日之果实，来日振兴我中华。Burgeoning and blossoming today, to make our homeland thrive and bloom tomorrow.这样太美好的期许，着实让彼时那个将满弱冠之年的我受宠若惊。除了用尽全力，对于祖国，我实在无以为报。竢实扬华这四个字，是期许也是责任，是家更是国。In such a tender age, I was really overwhelmed by the unexpected and glorious expectation. I can do nothing but go all out to repay my hometown. The motto was not simply a wish, it meant responsibility and obligation, for the sake of my home as well as my country.于是——国难当头之时，我坚守唐院一方净土，不惧日寇淫威，迎风飞扬的国旗是我亘古不变的信仰；Thus, when encountered national calamity, I held the placid campus firmly, not afraid of the atrocity of Japanese invaders，since the rising national flag in my campus bore my eternal faith.
五万里颠沛流离，自强不息是苦难镌刻在灵魂上的花朵；告别繁华，深入西南腹地，支援三线建设，寂寞也幸福；条件艰苦，科研攻坚，科技创新，中国高铁是我最最瞩目的骄傲。It’s been more than a hundred years.Rolling and transiting for five million miles with persistence, we had the spirit engraved on our souls.Saying goodbye to bustle, heading for southwest interior to support the construction of remote regions, we tasted happiness out of lonliness.And hardship could never hold back the breakthrough in science. The well-known Chinese bullet train and high-speed rail is my pride,making all of those pains worthwhile.
春生夏长，秋收冬藏，流年在我晶莹的汗水中闪烁，夜幕降临时灯火通明的实验室里传来捷报，那就是万籁俱寝时我听见花朵突然绽放的喜悦。As seasons cycled and lives alternated, the time glimmered in my perspiration. What rejoiced me most was the breaking-through news flying from laboratory, seeing the bright light starkly against the darkness when night falls, I was delighted just like hearing the sound of sudden blooming in the midnight.
彼时之唐院，今日之交大。竢实扬华的荣光永远牢记，我辈定当自强不息。My name has changed from Tangshan Engineering College to Southwest Jiaotong University. But the glory and spirit of the motto “ Si Shi Yang Hua ” will be born in mind forever，inspiring our generation for eternity.翻译：邓江绪 审核：杨皓天
