 I’m Dawn. Let’s talk about Portable Fire Extinguishers and When to Use Them .

Portable fire extinguishers are a tool for your safety in the event of a fire in your building. They are placed in the hallways and well marked, and there is always one within 75 feet of any pointin your building.

Fire extinguishers, however, are not meant for fighting fires. Fires that are larger than a single office trashcan, or that have been burning for 30 seconds or longer, are usually too big and too hot to be put out with a single extinguisher. That is why the policy is: if you encounter a fire, evacuate the building. Do not attempt to fight it with a fire extinguisher.

便携式灭火器是身处建筑内火灾时用于确保自身安全的工具。它们被放置于走廊内，并经过适当标记，建筑物内通常任两点距离75英尺（即22.86米）内放置一个。然而，灭火器并不意味与火搏斗。火势大于一个办公室垃圾桶大小，或持续燃烧达30秒及以上时间时，火势通常将因过大和温度过高而难以用单个灭火器扑灭。这就是为什么规定：如果遇到火灾，请从建筑物内疏散，不要尝试用灭火器灭火的原因。
