Listen to the tape then answer this question. What's wrong with the fashionable shoes?

LADY: Do you have any shoes like these?
SHOP ASSISTANT: What size?
LADY: Size five.
SHOP ASSISTANT: What colour?
LADY: Black.
SHOP ASSISTANT: I'm sorry. We don't have any.
LADY: But my sister bought this pair last month.
SHOP ASSISTANT: Did she buy them here?
LADY: No, she bought them in the U.S.
SHOP ASSISTANT: We had some shoes like those a month ago, but we don't have any now.
LADY: Can you get a pair for me, please?
SHOP ASSISTANT: I'm afraid that I can't. They were in fashion last year and the year before last. But they're not in fashion this year.
SHOP ASSISTANT: These shoes are in fashion now.
LADY: They look very uncomfortable.
SHOP ASSISTANT: They are very uncomfortable. But women always wear uncomfortable shoes!

1. Do you have any shoes like these? 像这样的鞋子你们有吗？
like these指代like these shoes，意思是像这样的鞋子；Do you have any … like these？像这样的……你们有吗？如：
Do you have any trousers like these?
像这样的裤子你们有吗？
2. What size? Size five. What colour? Black. 什么尺码的？5号的。什么颜色？黑的。
What size？
=What size do you want?
What colour?
=What colour do you want?
这两句话都是省略句；如下面的We don't have any.也是一个省略句，any后面省略了black shoes.
Size five. 指5号码的鞋子，这里说的是英国码，相当于中国38.5码的女鞋。
3. Did she buy them here? No, she bought them in the U.S. 她是在这买的吗？不，她是在美国买的。
A: buy的过去式是bought，属于不规则变化形式，和fight的过去式fought，think的过去式thought变化类似。
B: 问句和答语中的them指the shoes这双鞋子，是复数，所以用them代替。但如果前面有a pair of等进行修饰时，则通常当单数看待。如：
This pair of shoes is nice.
这双鞋很好看。
These trousers are too long for me.
这条裤子对我来说太长了。
This pair of trousers is very cheap.
这条裤子很便宜。
4. I'm afraid that I can't. 恐怕不行。
这是一个宾语从句，that是引导词，可以省略。如：
I'm afraid I left my phone on the metro.
我恐怕是把手机落在了地铁上。
be afraid of表示害怕……，如：
He is afraid of snakes.
他害怕蛇。
Don't be afraid of losing face.
不要怕丢面子。
5. They were in fashion last year and the year before last. 这鞋在去年和前年时兴，而今年已经不流行了。
fashion时尚，in fashion时尚的，受欢迎的，out of fashion落伍的，不时兴的。如：
The style is in fashion here in China.
这个款式在中国很流行。
That dress is out of fashion.
那条裙子已经不流行了。
6. Women always wear uncomfortable shoes. 女人们总是穿不舒服的鞋子。
uncomfortable不舒服的，comfortable舒服的，un是一个否定前缀，如：
happy高兴的-unhappy不高兴的
healthy健康的-unhealthy不健康的
friendly友好的-unfriendly不友好的
