但连词in that, except that, but that, save that, beyond that, notwithstanding that, besides that这7个例外是复合介词。

（一）7个“介词 + that”构成的复合连词
that从句不能作介词的宾语从句，但
but that要不是……，
except that除了……，
in that因为……，
save that除了……，
beyond that除了……，
notwithstanding that除了……，
besides that除了……，
这7个是复合从属连词（complex subordinator conjunction）不在此限。
其中常见的是in that， except that以及but that。

就语法讲，第二句是原来的结构，notwithstanding是not + withstanding，my advice notwithstanding是独立结构，直译作“我的劝告不（能）阻止”，全句直译作“他去了，我的劝告不（能）阻止（他的离去）”。
