In this article the author uses her own experience to show that a woman can learn anything a man can.
The author thought that some people might consider it ironic for a girl like her to become an engineer since she was raised in a very girly environment. However, as the author illustrated, cultural cues as such do not determine one's future development.
But it doesn't mean that the author made a good engineer easily. There are some difficulties that she had to confront. She had to grit her teeth to learn difficult subjects; she had to face the worries that her femininity is preventing her from doing well in science. But the boys in her class also faced such difficulties and they also had to work as hard.
As the author points out, we are different as individuals and we should not limit ourselves based on the findings of a few studies. Human brain is incredibly flexible, so much so that as long as we crave success and are willing to work hard, there is always a good chance that we can succeed.
