High signal on DWI can be caused by diffusion restriction, T2 elongation and both, with variable predominance among diseases.
Some diseases are characterized by distribution and morphology of the bright lesions on DW images.
Recognizing the pattern on DW images and evaluating the background mechanism for high signal could reasonably narrow down differential diagnosis and would help you make a specific diagnosis.
