not only…but (also)…究竟什么情况下产生部分倒装？
在讨论not only…but (also)在连接主语的结构时，不使用倒装结构，这点并不令人产生疑惑。
在说到not only…but (also)必须使用部分倒装（半倒装）的结构
——这也是目前高考英语考查测试的现象，但这里产生部分倒装前提究竟是什么？
我们也知道除上述情况外，还有“说不清”的一些实例。
下面总体进行相关分析阐述。
事实上，not only…but (also)…中的not only置于句首的条件下，我们可以通过具体实例，看到有以下几种情况：
一、not only句首时，（与but (also)…一样）连接主语——此时不涉及倒装与否；
二、not only句首时，同but (also)…都分别后接句子——大多使用部分倒装结构；
三、not only句首时，but (also)后并没有句子，而只是有短语结构，可倒装也可不使用倒装；
四、not only置于分句句首时，即全句的句首并非是not only，而not only只是位于句中的句首，此时也需要部分倒装；
五、not only句首时，其后的分句呈倒装结构，后接另外一个独立分句，中间用逗号或句号。
对于not only…but(also)的是否使用部分倒装，
——本文总体上给出以下7种结构：
第1：not only…but (also)…在连接主语结构时，并不产生倒装；
第2：not only…but (also)…在分别连接句子时，须将not only置于全句句首，用部分倒装。
该条目有例外情形，尽管不多见，因此本文单列为第7条。
第3：not only…but (also)…中的not only后接句子，而but (also)没有后接句子（无论是否由省略所造成），可以把not only提至句首，使用部分倒装结构。
第4：not only…but (also)…中的not only后接句子，而but (also)没有后接句子（无论是否由省略所造成），也可以不使用部分倒装结构，不必把not only提至句首。
第5：not only…but (also)…位于句子中间，也可以使用部分倒装结构。
第6：not only分句采用部分倒装结构，后面出现独立的另外一个分句，后句未出现but：
分为两种情况：
第一，两个分句分别独立成句，中间使用句号的结构。
第二，两个分句，中间用逗号隔开，可视为省略了but (also)的结构。
第7：not only位于句首并不使用倒装结构，but also后接的从句也是正常的语序。

第1：not only…but (also)…在连接主语结构时，并不产生倒装；

not only…but also是一个颇为正式的结构，not only和but also都可以直接置于其所修饰的词语或表达方式的前边。
Not only the bathroom was flooded, but also the rest of the house.
不仅仅浴室里都是水，而且房子里的其他地方也全都是水。

（A和B为对等关系的词语或从句，有时省略also而只剩下but）

第2. not only…but (also)…在分别连接句子时，须将not only置于全句句首，用部分倒装。
即not only后接的句子中有助动词（情态动词以及be, have, do）把助动词提到not only之后，若not only后接的句子中没有助动词，即在not only之后添加do，或does，或do。

以关联连词not only (…but also)开首的分句往往引起局部倒装。例如：
Not only didhe complain about the food, he also refused to pay for it.

可把not only移到句首起强调作用，后接助动词+主语；
如果没有其他助动词则用do。此时but可以省略。
Not only has she been late three times; she has also done no work.
她不仅仅迟到了三次，她还没干一点活。
Not only do they need clothing, but they are also short of water.
他们不但需要衣服，而且还缺水。

和both…and一样，not only…but的基本含义是补充：它不是把连接部分等同起来，而是把它们区分开来，迫使我们把第一个连接部分看作是“已知的”情况。但not only…but的强调作用更大，暗示第一个连接部分的内容是出人意外的，第二个连接部分的内容常用also或even这样的副词强化，则更加出人意外。这些结合词之所以与关联连词相似，主要是因为否定小品词可以从功能词后面的正常位置移开，以标明两个连接部分之间是相对的：
Not only did they break into his office and steal his books, but they also tore up his manuscripts.
本句的两个连接部分是完整分句。它体现了not only放在句首位置、后面接倒装的主语和功能词可以达到更加富有戏剧性的效果。

连接主语不同的两个分句时，not only必须置于句首。

由于not only置于句首，视为否定副词，第一个主句要倒装。but also仅为连接词，故其后的第二个从句不需倒装，但also则一定要省略，或移至句中。亦可将also省略后在句尾处加as well。例如：

第4：not only…but (also)…中的not only后接句子，而but (also)没有后接句子（无论是否由省略所造成），也可以不使用部分倒装结构，不必把not only提至句首。

有一读者问：根据一些语法书的解说，not only…but also引导并列主语时，not only如在句首，全句须倒装，但在一些书中却出现了这样的句子：
（1）Not only he but also I am a teacher.
这是怎么回事？
你引证中的“并列主语”应改为“并列句”就对了。如：
（2）Not only was she a good singer, but she was also a graceful dancer.
（3）Not only did she sing well, but she also danced gracefully.
在这种情况下（可以理解为——not only…but (also)引导并列句时，not only如在句首），句子结构一般需要倒装（但有不倒装的情况）。

第6：not only分句采用部分倒装结构，后面出现独立的另外一个分句，后句未出现but。
分为两种情况：

——本例，不建议作为重要知识点讲解给学生，作为老师，知晓即可。算不算孤例？至少我本人到今天为止，还没有看到关于此条目的其他例句。
对于目前中高考英语的学生来说，比较保险的做法就是知晓并按照上面的第1条、第2条的内容去做；而老师（中高考英语的老师以及…）还是知道多些比较妥帖。
