Injury and pain behind glitz and glamour of cities...
When you look out of the window and see the skyscrapers, you might not realize the risks the workers took to create the towering symbols of human ambitions.
While China's rapid pace of development over the past few decades has completely transformed the country, not everyone has been lucky enough to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Many migrant workers doing dangerous jobs, such as working on construction sites, have met accidents that have left them handicapped and unable to work.
With a lot of them coming from poor families, they are trapped in huge financial difficulties after losing their ability to earn money.
To raise people's awareness of these injured workers, a series of photos were taken on the roof of a hospital building in Wuhan, Hubei province, to show the everyday reality of these workers against the backdrop of city's skyline.
▲ Zhou Changsheng, 36, who is from Yingshan county, Hubei province, fell from an 11-storey building under construction when the machine transporting him malfunctioned in October. Zhou survived by grabbing scaffold, but he was severely injured and now faces amputation.
▲ Zhou is pictured on a wheelchair.
▲ Zhou's daughter cries after seeing his father at the hospital on Dec 24, 2016. After losing the ability to work, Zhou was so desperate that he even considered giving his nine-year-old son to an adopted family.
▲ Zhou and his wife married in 2001 and they have one daughter and one son. Zhou had been working in construction sites in Shanghai and Wuhan for years before the accident.
▲ 30-year-old Liu Songbai's both legs were severely injured after he was accidently trapped under an excavator when learning to drive the machine in 2012. As he did not have enough money, Liu was transferred to different hospitals before he was admitted by Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. The medical cost left him more than 30,000 yuan ($4,300) in debt but the doctor allowed him to go home raise the money.
▲ Li Guijun (R) lost his right leg in an accident at a pipeline factory in March. After nine months' treatment, he can now stand on crutches. And recently, he and his wife married in the hospital.
