#1: Know your stuff.
Put those hard-won research skills to use! Look into the schools you want to apply to carefully. DO use resources like The Fiske Guide to Colleges to really understand a school’s atmosphere and its fit for you. DO NOT put schools on your list just because they are “Top 30.”

#2: Write with depth, not breadth.
Your PS is your chance to bring your activities to life and show why they’re important to you. DO write from your heart about one of your activities or interests. DO NOT write a list of your accomplishments or write the story of your life. Those details are already in your activity list. They’ll just make your PS sound repetitive.

#3: Keep it real.
Make sure your SAT writing sample and essays are consistent in writing style. Your school will be able to view your SAT writing sample, and may be suspicious if the quality or style is vastly different from your application essays. DO stay relaxed and apply your natural style to your SAT writing test.DO NOT let someone else write your application essay.
