虽然在美国文科专业申请中，申请MPA/MPP的学生数量远不及TESOL，LLM和传播这样的热门专业，但是近两年这个专业的申请者数量也是呈逐年增长的趋势。 MPA和MPP专业其实是不同的，MPA侧重的是政策的一个实施过程，而MPP强调的不仅仅是政策的结果，更多的是政策制定及分析的过程。 但是由于在申请过程中大多数都是在校生，没有很多工作经验，所以两个专业一起申请可选性更多。

Personal Statement (Essay 1):
Please elaborate on why you have chosen to apply to the MIA/MPA program. How will this program enable you to achieve your career goals? Describe your academic and research interests and career objectives. (400 words maximum)
Short Essay (Essay 2):
Tell us about a policy change related to your selected SIPA concentration that has had a negative or positive impact on others. (200 words maximum)
哥伦比亚大学要求两篇essay：
1. 为什么申请哥大的MIA/MPA项目？这个项目如何能帮助你实现自己的职业目标？描述自己的学术和研究兴趣以及职业目标。

III. Your future goals--how you would put an MPA graduate education to use
IV. Examples of volunteer work, positions of responsibility, and any other life experiences that have contributed to your interest in public affairs
ESSAY (1,000 WORDS MAXIMUM)
Briefly describe an area of public affairs to which you would like to make a contribution
Discuss what you would like to see accomplished in this area
Explain how you would go about initiating, supporting, and sustaining changes in this area so as to enhance public well-being and public services.
康奈尔大学也要求两篇文章：
1. 正常的SP，但是字数要限定在500字；
2. 描述你想从事的MPA领域，你想把这个领域发展成什么样子，以及你会采取什么措施去实现目标？
普林斯顿大学
Personal statement
Your personal statement should showcase your strengths and provide an overview of your background, goals, academic and professional aspirations, and a commitment to public service. The personal statement should be approximately two to four pages. If you wish to address any weaknesses in your application, it is better to write a separate, succinct, fact-based explanation as an addendum.
Supplemental essay
Beyond your other application requirements, we want to get to know you on a more personal and individual basis. We would like you to answer the question, 'What do you like best and least about where and how you grew up?' Your answer should be concise, 200 to 300 words, double spaced.
Policy memo
The ability to write succinct and impactful policy memos will prove useful in both academic and career settings. For the purposes of this memo, the admissions committee is less concerned about format and more interested in your professional experiences, your critical analysis of the issues and your ability to write cogently and clearly. Choose a topic to demonstrate your knowledge of an area related to your field of concentration and your professional and personal interests. Specific topics create better opportunities to demonstrate analytical skills and analysis than broader ones. The memo should be approximately four double-spaced pages and should identify a problem in domestic or international affairs, discuss the complexity of it and propose policy recommendations. (propose a definitive solution)
普林斯顿大学要求的比较多，一共有三篇。
1、正常的SP；
2、补充essay：回答一个问题，即“在你成长过程中，你最喜欢什么，最不喜欢什么？”
3、一封政策函：择一项国内或者国际上的事务，描述其复杂性并提出政策上的建议。

Maximum length 500 words. Your essay should address the following:
MPP & MIDP: The McCourt
School's programs emphasize analytical rigor and using sophisticated quantitative tools where appropriate. Why do you think analytical rigor is important for policy analysis? Use a current policy issue (MIDP applicants should use a development policy issue) to demonstrate your reasoning.

Essay 1
A career in public service has never been static, but in our ever-evolving, globally interrelated world, the pace of change keeps getting faster. Sectors overlap, roles change, and then change again. Describe your short and long-term professional goals in public service. How does your decision to pursue graduate study at NYU Wagner move you towards the achievement of your goals? What do you hope to accomplish in the program? (500 words)

Public service professionals face tremendous challenges both in and out of the workplace. Resilience and strength of character are vital characteristics for success in any facet of public service. Describe a challenge you encountered in your personal, professional, or academic life. How were you tested? What actions did you take to overcome the challenge? (500 words)
