衔接 Cohension
在有了一篇文章的基本框架后，我们还要使用各种装置将每个单句和句组连接起来。这使得我们的整个习作自然顺畅，没有不必要的重复。这也会帮助读者掌握笔者正在表述的各种观点之间的关系。衔接的主要方式包括：
反复提及
在我们写作或说话时会使用一定词汇重新提及我们已经说过或解释过的事物：我们都会不自觉地做这样的事。特别能起到这样作用的一类词汇是代词。让我们看一段文字：
Hyphens are used to link words and parts of words. They are not as common today as they used to be but there are three main cases where you should use them.
文中重复提及 hyphen 时使用了代词 they，使得整段结构更紧凑也更简洁。

举例说明某观点
在行文中，当你想要特别说明某点情况时，常常会需要为说明你的论点而提供事实数据或细节。
如：We can find many examples of public money being wasted on projects that benefit very few people. For example, the fast ferries cost hundreds of millions of dollars and they don't even work properly.

解释某事物原因或结果
有时，段落中的一个句子是上一句逻辑上发展而来，我们可以使用不同的词汇来突出这种关联性。
