Synchronized swimming China Open will kick off in Beijing at China's National Aquatics Center, nicknamed the "Water Cube", on Friday.

About 200 swimmers from Austria, the Netherlands, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and hosts China will compete for the China open, which serves as an important warm-up competition for the swimming world championships in Shanghai this July.

At the same time, the national synchronized swimming championships will also be held in the "Water Cube".

Twin sisters Jiang Wenwen and Jiang Tingting, gold medallists at the Guangzhou Asiad duet synchronized swimming, will only take part in the national championships.

"Wenwen and Tingting missed the winter training due to their physical conditions, so they can not play for the national team at the China Open," said the sister's coach Zheng Jia.

Zheng is very optimistic about the sisters' performance at Shanghai world championships. "Compared with last year at Guangzhou Asiad, the twins improved a lot both in the rhythm and synchronization. I think they will be better at the Shanghai Worlds in July, and they may also take part in the team event." she said.
