HONG KONG, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Some 1,000 leading logistics providers and users, along with senior government officials from all over the world took part in the second Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference here Thursday.
Jointly organized by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, this year's conference attracted more than 1,000 attendees from over 26 countries and regions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Hong Kong's Financial Secretary John Tsang said Hong Kong is well placed to facilitate the myriad of supply chains and the growing consumption markets in Asia.
Hong Kong's prime location, world-class infrastructure and extensive multi-modal transport network make the city an efficient logistics hub in the region, Tsang said.
"We have the world's busiest airport, with cargo throughput reaching almost four million tons last year. Our seaport is the third busiest in the world, handling about 24.4 million TEUs last year. We also have direct cross-boundary links to the economic powerhouse of the Pearl River Delta region," he added.
The conference's plenary sessions focused on the global economic shift to Asia and its impact on logistics and supply chain management, and opportunities in emerging markets.
