RESIDENTS in the Huamu Community in the Pudong New Area and others can now enjoy a long jog or bicycle ride on a 5,010-meter-long trail newly designated for exercise around the Century Park, the local government announced yesterday on its microblog.
A total of 19 signboards were erected along the trail that links Jinxiu, Huamu and Fangdian roads to tell joggers how many calories they have burned at a certain point.
People can burn 500 calories in one lap.
This is the first sidewalk-turned-trail in Shanghai, which is designated to facilitate exercise, officials said.
Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trail.
"Lots of people walk around the park," said resident Gong Guifang. Now, fitness fans will find it "more convenient for them."
The trail will be paved with asphalt to make it better for exercise in the next phase, to be finished next year.
