Shanghai men like women with curves

An online matchmaking website's survey has found that men in Shanghai prefer voluptuous women with big eyes, the agency said Thursday.

The website, jiayuan.com, surveyed more than 18,000 of its male and female users at the end of February to learn which physical attributes arouse the most interest in the opposite sex, the survey said. Men made up 51 percent of total respondents.

More male respondents from Shanghai than other parts of the country said they preferred women with big eyes, the survey results showed.

Fifty-five percent of Shanghai men expressed their fondness for large eyes, compared with 12 percent of male respondents from Zhejiang province and 5 percent from Guangdong province.

Female respondents were also more interested in men's eyes than other facial features, including hair and teeth, according to the survey. However, the women preferred small eyes to large ones. The survey supposed that women's preference for small eyes might have something to do with the recent popularity of South Korean television shows in China.

The survey also found that Shanghai men preferred curvaceous women more than men from other parts of the country. Nearly 21 percent of Shanghai men listed a shapely figure among their preferences, followed by men from Guangdong province. Nearly 19 percent of local men said they liked wide hips.

More male respondents from Guangdong province than any other part of China - nearly 21 percent - put down large breasts as a preference. By comparison, 17 percent of Shanghai men listed theattribute as one of their preferences.

The survey found that women with fair skin were more likely to catch a Beijing man's eye. Some 13 percent of the male respondents liked a woman to have a fair complexion.
