The Shanghai Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV and Youku Tudou have agreed to set up a production center for original Chinese micro-movies and online series.
The facility will be a base for the creation of movies, drama series, animation and entertainment shows, said Gu Yongqiang, chief executive of the video sharing website.
It will also provide funding for emerging Chinese filmmakers, Gu said yesterday at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival.
The new center will be part of the China (Shanghai) Network Audio-Visual Industry Center, which is under construction at the Zizhu National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, said Hu Jinjun, director of the administration.
It will "explore new models of production, technological innovation and marketing ... and foster young Chinese talent," he said.
On the development of the film festival, Hu said that next year's event will include special screenings of a number of musical and operatic films, as well as various offerings from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
Furthermore, the current Mobile SIFF program will be developed as an Internet festival, he said.
