BEIJING, Aug.18 -- Japanese anti-war activists expressed hope for all peace-loving peopleto join hands to safeguard Japan's pacifist Constitution at the first Peace Prize of Asiaawarding ceremony on Friday.The Peace Prize of Aisa is sponsored by Malaysia’s Society for Research on World War IIHistory. After rigorous reviews and discussions, the judges' panel ultimately awarded thefirst "Peace Prize of Asia" to all Japanese people in recognition of their efforts to preventwar and defend the pacifist Constitution for world peace.An anti-war activist said on the occasion that it was “a retrogression of history” for theJapanese cabinet in July to approve a resolution that would allow the country to exercisethe so-called "collective self-defense right" by revising its pacifist Constitution, ignoringstrong protests from home.The establishment of the Peace Prize of Asia is to waken people's consciousness andenthusiasm to maintain world peace, which is seen as a prerequisite for the survival ofmankind and the fundamental development of human society, said the judges’ panel chief.(Editor:Kong Defang、Huang Jin)Email|Print|Comments
