A recruitment notice from the Polar Expedition Office of China's State Oceanic Administration has recently attracted public attention.
The notice said that China's Antarctic research station will offer positions including cooks, doctors, engineers, electricians to the public. People from 28 to 50 who have good physical conditions and qualifications in related filed are eligible to apply for the positions.
The successful candidates will receive an allowance of about 200,000 yuan in Great Wall Station. During the work in Antarctic research station, they can still get the pay of their previous jobs.
According to the staff of the Polar Expedition Office, since the announcement of the recruitment, the registration hotline has been very busy. People from all over the country called for joining the Antarctic station.
Fang Yuanfa, ex-chef in Antarctic Research Station, said:" Working in Antarctica will be a huge challenge and it will greatly improve the spiritual realm of a person. The scenery is awesome, however I suggest people to take full consideration before making the decision."
According to Fang, the most difficult thing to adapt to in Antarctica is monotony. "You can see only two colors there: white snow and black rock," Fang said. “If one wants to go 500 meters away from the station, he needs to apply for the permission from the head of station at least one day in advance, and he needs to make sure there is one companion with him. As the weather changes very quickly there, dangers may come at any moment. "
Fang said the landscape of Antarctica is one of the best memories in his life. Besides the breathtaking scenery, there are also unique animals such as sea lions, seals and penguins. "On Penguin Island, the penguins are not afraid of people," he said.
The Great Wall Station has satellite phones, but they can only be used under exceptional circumstances. WiFi is also available in the station with a limit network speed. "It is fast enough for you to chat and send photos to your family through Wechat," said Fang.
