Young:Hi, Doris. Do you know any good restaurants? I want to try something new after work.
Doris:How about hotpot? Are you a fan of it?
Young:I love it. Do you know where a good one is?
Doris: Yes. I used to go to a really good one all the time. It's not far from here. I can't remember the Chinese name, but it's next to a Wal-Mart.
Young: Let me check.I found two locations. Which one is it?
Doris: I think it's this location. My Chinese isn't so good, but it should be right.
(Young gets on and off subway.)
(Young
Young: I need to go out from Exit B.
Young: Ok. I need to walk along the street and turn left at the traffic lights. The hotpot restaurant should be around the corner.
Young:I've arrived. Here is the Wal-Mart, but where is the hotpot restaurant?(复习where is… level 1 lesson 1)
Young:There's only a spa. It must have been the other location after all.(复习 There is… level1 lesson6)Oh well, I'm here now!
all the time 始终,一直
walk along the street
be around the corner
I'm here now!
How about...? ......
Are you a fan of...
Do you know where...
I used to...
It must have been…(这肯定是……。)
Now let’s take a look at the language points in this lesson.
1. Young:Hi, Doris. Do you know any good restaurants?(杨:你好,多莉丝。
I want to try something new after work.(我想在下班后吃点没吃过的。)
所谓的“不定代词”,也就是“不明确指代人或物的词”,比如some(一些),any(任何),every(每个),all(所有),none(no one,也就是“没有”)等等。
这类表达以后你要习惯,比如something beautiful(漂亮的某物),someone else(其他人)等等。Your turn: 没什么特别的(nothing special)。
2. Doris:How about hotpot?(多莉丝:火锅怎么样?)
The first sentence pattern we’re learning today is: How about…?(…… 比如说:How about this dress?(这个连衣裙怎么样?) How about going out for dinner tonight?(今晚出去吃饭怎么样?)It’s your turn now: 星期三下午怎么样?(How about Wednesday afternoon?)Another: 去打篮球怎么样?(How about playing basketball?)
在这一点上,What about和How about可以互换,没有区别。
I like this movie. What about you?(我喜欢这部电影。
I like this movie. How about you?
I’ve never been to Australia before. What about you?(我从来没去过澳大利亚。
I’ve never been to Australia before. How about you?
— Let’s go for a movie!(——
— What about my English classes?(——
How about my English classes?
— I’m so bored. I want to try something interesting.(我好无聊。
(How about playing football?)
— Let’s play football.(我们去踢足球吧。)
(What about my homework?)
另外,hotpot(火锅)是一个合成词,由hot(形容词“热的”)和pot(名词“锅”)组成,字面意思是“热锅”,突出的是火锅的温度。
Are you a fan of it?(你喜欢吃火锅吗?)
原文里的a fan of sth.,指的是“某物的粉丝”,当然你也可以说a fan of sb.(某人的粉丝)。Are you a fan of it? This is also the second sentence pattern we’re learning today: Are you a fan of…?(你喜欢…… Are you a fan of the movie star?(你是那个电影明星的影迷吗?/你喜欢那个电影明星吗?)Your turn: 你喜欢流行音乐吗?(Are you a fan of pop music?)
3. Young:I love it.(杨:我爱火锅。)
Do you know where a good one is?(你知道哪里有不错的火锅店吗?)
The third sentence pattern we’re learning today is: Do you know where…?(你知道…… Do you know where a good one is? 后面的where a good one is就是陈述句的语序,表示“一家好的(火锅店)在哪里”。 因为Do you know后面要跟的是宾语,翻译成“你知道某件事吗?” where a good one is指的就是“一家好的(火锅店)在哪里这件事”,但如果你说where is a good one?
Do you know where she is?(你知道她在哪儿么?) Do you know where is she? Do you know where he lives?(你知道他住在哪儿吗?) Do you know where does he live?
Your turn: 你知道他说的是什么吗?(Do you know what he said?)Another: 你知道我为什么生气吗?(Do you know why I’m angry?)
4. Doris: Yes.(多莉丝:我知道。)
I used to go to a really good one all the time.(我以前经常去一家很好的火锅店。)
The third sentence pattern we’re learning today is: I used to…。 I used to live in London.(我曾经在伦敦居住过。) He used to be one of my professors.(他过去是我的一个教授。)
生活里,used to do sth. I used to go there every Saturday.(我以前每星期六都去那儿。)
(He used to be a policeman.)One more: 我过去经常打篮球。(I used to play basketball.)
英语里还有个表达,叫做be used to sth.。这里的to sth.,指的是“针对某事”,所以be used to sth. I’m used to the noise around here.(我已经习惯这附近的噪音了。) I am used to traveling alone.(我习惯了一个人旅行。)
英语里还有个表达,叫做be used to do sth.,不过这里的be used是被动语态,表示“被使用”。be used to do sth.,指的是“被用来去做某事”。 Money can be used to buy things.(钱可以被用来买东西。)
(1)used to do sth.(曾经做过某事。
(2)be used to sth./doing sth.(习惯某事)(used是形容词)
(3)be used to do sth.(被用来做某事)(be used是被动语态)
It's not far from here.(那家店离这里不远。)
这句话里,It’s not far(那家店不远)是主要信息;后面的from here(从这里)是地点状语。
I can't remember the Chinese name,(我不记得那家店的中文名字了,)
but it's next to a Wal-Mart.(但它就在一家沃尔玛超市旁边。)
5. Young: Let me check.(杨:我查一查。)
I found two locations.(我找到了两个地址。)
Which one is it?(你说的是哪一个?)
6. Doris: I think it's this location.(多莉丝:我觉得应该是这个。)
I think后面的it’s this location也是句子里的句子作宾语,也就是“宾语从句”。 (I think your idea is very good.)Another one: (I think your nephew is really cute.)
My Chinese isn't so good, 我的中文不太好,
but it should be right.(但应该是对的。)
(Young gets on subway and off subway)
(Young
7. Young: I need to go out from Exit B.(杨:我需要从B口出去。)
I need to go out(我需要出去)是这句话的主要信息;后面的from Exit B(从B口)是地点状语。
8. Young: Ok. I need to walk along the street and turn left at the traffic lights.(杨:好。
一个是walk along the street(沿着这条街走)。
另一个是turn left(左转),在什么地点左转呢?at the traffic lights(在交通指示灯那里/在红绿灯那里)。 这是个合成词,由cross(名词“十字形”)和road(名词“路”)组成。
The hotpot restaurant should be around the corner.(火锅店应该就在拐角处。)
There's a bookstore around the corner.(拐角处有一家书店)。
Now I’ll ask you a question and you can translate the answer into English:
— Excuse me. Where is the way to this bookstore?(不好意思。
(Walk along the street and turn right at the traffic lights.)
— Hello. Could you please tell me how to get to this restaurant?(您好。
(Walk along the street and turn left at the traffic lights, and the restaurant is just around the corner.)
Christmas is just around the corner.(圣诞节马上就要到了。)
9. Young:I've arrived.(杨:我已经到了。)
Here is the Wal-Mart,(这是那家沃尔玛超市,)
but where is the hotpot restaurant?(但是火锅店在哪?)
10. Young:There's only a spa.(杨:这儿只有一家温泉浴场。)
It must have been the other location after all.(火锅店终究是在另外那个地方。)
It must have been terrible when that happened.(那件事发生的时候一定很糟糕。) (It must have been very cold here last night.)
She has two daughters. One is nine; the other is five.(她有两个女儿。 This part of the movie is good, but the other parts are boring.(电影的这个部分挺好,但是其它部分都太无聊了。)
We've decided to live in another city after all.(我们终究还是决定住在另一座城市。) After all, 15 minutes of exercise is better than nothing.(毕竟,15分钟的锻炼比没锻炼强。)
Oh well, I'm here now!(哎呀,来都来了!)
So much for today’s language points. I hope you can review in time and make progress day by day.

Now let’s take a look at the key words in this lesson.
1. restaurant[ˈrestərɑːnt] n.
The police are trying to restore public order.(警察正在努力恢复公共秩序。) The operation restored his sight.(手术使他恢复了视力。)
That new restaurant was a big disappointment.(那家新餐馆使人大失所望。)
2. remember [rɪˈmembə(r)] v.
I can remember people's faces, but not their names.(我可以記住人的長相,但記不住人的名字。)或者说:Do you remember her?(你记得她吗?)
3. location [loʊˈkeɪʃn] n.
locate [ləʊˈkeɪt] vt.
The police are trying to locate the missing girl.(警方正在努力确定失踪女孩的位置。)
They located their new company in New York.(他们把新公司安在了纽约。)
My company is located in suburban Beijing.((我的公司位于北京郊区。)
He showed me our location on the map.(他在地图上给我指出我们所处的方位。)
4. around [əˈraʊnd] prep.
We sat around the table.(我们围着桌子坐着。)
Our house is just around the corner.(我们的房子就在拐角。)
Let me show you around.(让我来带你四处参观一下。)
She turned the car around and drove off.(她把轿车调头开走了。)
5. corner[ˈkɔː(r)nə(r)] n.
I hit my knee on the corner of the table.(我的膝盖撞到桌子角上了。) There’s a man in the corner of the room.(房间的角落里有个人。)
That’s all for today’s key words. I hope you can better understand and memorize them more efficiently.
