Myelography (Myelogram) is a diagnostic examination of the spine. A special x-ray sensitive contrast dye is injected to illuminate the spine, allowing identification of problems within the spine, spinal cord and nerve roots.
脊髓造影术是脊柱的一种诊断性检查，术中注入特殊的能在X线下显影的对比造影剂，以渲染脊柱，便于明确病变位于脊柱、脊髓还是神经根。
Overview（概述）
This outpatient procedure is a diagnostic examination of the spine. It allows the physicain to identify problems involving the spine, the spinal cord and the nerve roots.
脊髓造影术可在门诊进行，它是脊柱的诊断性检查，使医生能够确定病变涉及到脊柱、脊髓还是神经根。
Preparation（准备）
In preparation for the procedure, the patient sits or lies down to expose the lower back. The back is cleaned with an antiseptic solution. The physician injects a local anesthetic to numb the tissue of the back.
准备操作时，患者取坐位或卧位，露出腰部，医生用消毒液清洁皮肤，并注入局麻药对腰部组织进行麻醉。
Positioning the Needle（穿刺）
The physician carefully guides a needle down to the spinal column. The needle is pushed through the dura( the thin, tough sac that surrounds the spinal cord and the nerve roots).
医生小心地将针穿入脊柱，并穿过硬脊膜（包绕脊髓和神经根周围的薄而坚韧的囊）
Injecting the Dye（注射造影剂）
When the needle is positioned correctly, the physician slowly injects contrast dye. This dye mixes with the spinal fluid and flows through the spinal canal. The physician captures images of the spine from multiple angles with an X-ray or CT scanner. The dye greatly enhances the images. It helps show abnormalities in the spine.
当针穿刺到位，医生缓慢地注入造影剂。造影剂与脑脊液混合，并在椎管内流动。医生用X线或CT扫描获取各种角度的脊柱的影像。造影剂很好地使图像强化，有助于显示脊柱的异常。
End of Procedure（手术结束）
When the examination is complete, the injection site is covered with a small bandage. The dye will be harmlessly eliminated by the body. The patient will be moinitored for a short time before being allowed to go home.
当检查结束后，穿刺部位用小创可贴包扎。造影剂对人体无害会被人体清除。经过短时间的监护，病人即可回家。
