<三>v-ing形容词/v-ed形容词
有一类动词后面加-ing和-ed转化为形容词。v-ing形容词意为“令人…的”，主要用于说明事物，表示事物的性质或特征，若用它们说明人，则表示此人具有此性质或特征。v-ed形容词意为“感到…的”，通常用于说明句中主语（人）的情绪变化。
Mr. Smith looksembarrassed, because he had been asked some embarrassing questions.
史密斯先生看起来很尴尬，因为有人问了他一些令人尴尬的问题。
（embarrassed意为“感到尴尬的”，embarrassing意为“令人尴尬的”）
The lecture is so boringthat many students feel bored.
讲座很枯燥，很多学生感到无聊。
（boring意为“令人无聊的，枯燥的”，bored意为“感到无聊的”）
注意：有时v-ing形容词也可以用来形容人，如：
He is a boring person, soall of us dislike him.
他很令人讨厌，因此我们都不喜欢他。

<四>make up/ bemade upof/consist of
虽然它们都表示“构成”，但用法不同。make up，通常是“部分”做主语，表示“部分构成整体”； bemade up of，通常是“整体”做主语，表示“由…构成”； consist of和be made up of类似，通常是“整体”做主语，表示“由…构成，包含”，但不用被动语态。
因此，“英国由四部分构成”可以表示为：
Four parts make up the UK.
=The UK is made up of fourparts.
=The UK consists of fourparts.
