2. 现代英语中的连加状语其实是指传统语法中那些具有连词性质但起副词作用的词语或短语(包括某些短句),比如 and, or, but 等是典型的并列连词,而 besides, then, till / yet / nevertheless, so / therefore, however, thus, in addition, in conclusion, what is more, what is worse, what interests me more 等则是具有连词性质但起副词作用的词语短语——它们在句子中的作用就是所谓的连接状语(或联加状语)。
He is a teacher, and besides he is a poet.
She is nice, and therefore (he is) popular.
It got dark, and what was worse, it began to rain.
She wasn’t paying attention, and so she did not notice when the milk ran over.
At first I thought he was joking but then I realized he meant it.
Students must sit three exam papers, and in addition there is a practical test.
