哈里特·尼古拉斯(Harriet Nicholas 1793-1850)是英国国会议员、海军军官和奴隶贩子托马斯·弗兰克兰爵士的侄女。

她的父亲是威尔特郡克里克拉德的议员罗伯特·尼古拉斯,也是他和妻子夏洛特·弗兰克兰的第四个女儿。

她性格开朗,自信,受过极好的教育,1816年,她嫁给了海军中将亨利·迪奥多西·布朗·科利尔,科利尔曾在装有20门大炮的法尔茅斯号舰艇上执行过任务,有过荣耀的海军生涯。婚后哈里特·尼古拉斯和科利尔相依厮守,生活美满,让许多英国人所羡慕。两人育有3个儿子和4个女儿。

哈里特·尼古拉斯从小就表现出极高的绘画天赋,经常临摹圣经上的肖像,后在父母的安排下在英国皇家画院学习,她在画院只停留了短暂的4个月时间,后潜心研究,并领悟了绘画的真谛。绘制女人水彩肖像画是她的专长,她的画下人物神态高雅大气,生动逼真,有欧洲文艺复兴的内涵,她吸取了莎士比亚时期女王及王室贵族的画风,兼具维多利亚早期浪漫自信的肖像画风,她博采众长,吸收油画中光色对人像的刻意表现画法,并运用至水彩画的肖像中,为当时贵族阶层所推崇的画法。但因为当时英国上层贵族和皇室最为欣赏和喜爱油画,水彩画也极近冷落和表现不佳。

Harriet Nicholas (1793-1850) was the niece of Sir

Thomas frankland, an mp, naval officer and slave trader.

Her father is Robert Nicholas, mp for cricklade, Wiltshire,and the fourth daughter of his wife (charlotte frankland).

She was cheerful, confident, and well-educated. In 1816,she married vice admiral Henry diodosius brown collier,who had served on the ship falmouth with 20 cannonsand had a distinguished naval career. After marriageHarriet Nicholas and collier cohabitation kitchen guard,a happy life, let many britons envy. They have three sonsand four daughters.

Harriet Nicholas showed a high talent for painting when she was young,and often copied the portraits on the bible. Then, she studied in theRoyal Academy of painting under the arrangement of her parents.
