小伙伴们都知道交朋友是make friends with sb，但是交男朋友可不是make a boyfriend，快来听听吉米老师怎么说。

'交男朋友'不能说make a boyfriend!

如果我们对外国人说，I want to make a boyfriend。他们一定是一头雾水，因为在外国人听来，make a friend的意思是你要制造出一个男朋友。这话也太令人震惊了。

• get a boyfriend: 交男朋友(最常用,最地道)

She got a boyfriend after work.

工作之后她交了一个男朋友

• find a boyfriend: 找男朋友

Her mother doesn t think it s hard to find a boyfriend.

她的妈妈认为找一个男朋友并不难。

• look for a boyfriend: 找男朋友

When she was in college, she wanted to look for a boyfriend.

她在大学的时候很希望找一个男朋友。

• have a boyfriend: 有男朋友

He asked me politely:'Do you have a boyfriend?'

他很礼貌地询问，你有男朋友吗?

PS: '交女朋友'也是一个道理啦, 把boyfriend换成girlfriend就好~

• look for a partner in marriage 

例：He found it difficult to find a partner.

他觉得找对象不是一件容易的事。

• look for a mate 

例：Why do you have to look for a mate? Is it bad to be single？

为什么一定要找对象？单身不好吗？

•  find a mate

例：She wants to find a mate before she is 30.

她想在30岁之前找到配偶。

感情状态 relationship status

• puppy love 早恋/少男少女间短暂的爱情

Don t worry, it s only puppy love. 

别担心，不过是少男少女之间的短暂迷恋而已。

• hit it off 相处得好/合得来

hit it off 表示喜欢某人并立刻变得友善，与某人迅速建立积极友好的关系。在美国俚语中还有“深受欢迎”的含义。

We hit it off with each other as soon as we met.

我们见面不久就觉得一见如故。

• on the rocks 恋情告急/恋情出现危机

on the rocks表示遭遇危机，濒临破裂，面临破产。这一层含义来自航海中触礁的船只搁浅在海中的岩石之上，仅剩残骸这一情形。

ps: on the rocks 还有点酒的时候“加冰块”的意思。

My relationship with my boyfriend is on the rocks. 

我们情侣之间的感情出现了问题。

• break up 分手

She said on the phone yesterday that she broke up.

她昨天在电话里说她分手了。

• back together 复合

They are back together.

他们两个复合了。

• live together/ separate 同/分居  

The girl is shacking up with her boyfriend.

那个女孩正和男朋友同居。

The separation of a couple often leads to divorce.

分居往往是离婚的前奏。

• pop the question 求婚

I really love my her and I m going to pop the question. 

我很爱她，打算向她求婚。

 

• tie the knot 结婚

knot有“结”、“把……打成结”的意思；tie是系的意思，可以联想到成语“喜结连理”；

tie the knot 用作动词时候，除了结婚，还有主持婚礼的含义。

Last week my friend and his girlfriend tied the knot. 

上周我朋友和他女友正式步入婚姻殿堂。

 

• settle down 成家/安家

When are you going to settle down? 

你打算什么时候安顿下来？

• cheat on 出轨、不忠 出轨

注意区分，在表示“对某事欺骗”时，可用cheat in/on；在表示“对某人欺骗”时，只可以用cheat on。

I d found he was cheating on me and I was angry.

发觉他对我不忠后，我很气愤。

• divorce 离婚

After the divorce, she lived more freely.

离婚之后，她活得更自由了。

 

• remarry复婚

还可说 restoration of a marriage。restoration有修复的意思，婚姻的修复，自然是复婚，破镜重圆。

After five years apart, they remarried.

分开五年后，他们复婚了。
