“洗碗”用英语怎么说？真的不是“wash the bowl”！

前两天，普特君在网上看到一篇英语作文，主题是关于“做家务”的。文中出现了许多相关表达，普特君注意到了wash the bowl这一表达。

那么，这个表达对吗？只能说这个表达太过直译，不地道，老外也不习惯这么说。细想一下，“刷盘子”可以说brush the plates吗？也不行，理由同上。

实际上，“洗碗”和“刷盘子”通常会同时进行，在英文中也是共用一个表达：do the dishes. 当然，也可以说wash the dishes，这里的dishes就是“餐具（包括碗和盘子等）”的意思。

Since you have cooked dinner, I'll clear the table and do the dishes.

既然你做饭了，那我就负责收拾桌子和洗碗吧。

I don't feel like washing the dishes today.

我今天不想洗碗。

与此同时，BBC也提供给我们一个表达：do the washing-up，这里的washing-up是名词，意思是“洗餐具”。

做家务 do the chores

相信大家对chores这个词，它的意思就是“琐事；杂活”。

I spent my entire weekend doing the chores.

我整个周末都在做家务。

洗衣服 do the washing 

关于“洗衣服”，除了大家都知道的wash clothes外，老外还常说do the laundry和do the washing这两个表达。washing大家都理解，就是“洗衣物”，这里说下laundry这个词。

laundry [ˈlɔːndri] 不可数名词

n.洗衣店，洗衣房；要洗的衣服；洗熨；洗好的衣服

“laundry”指“洗衣店，洗衣房，要洗的衣物”，一般指干洗店。外国人经常带着大量的衣物到洗衣店或者公共洗衣房里清洗，他们觉得机器能做的事情尽量交给机器做。因此，“do the laundry” 表达“洗衣服”是最地道的。而一些贴身的衣物或者小件的衣物，中国人可能更喜欢自己手洗。

① 晾衣服 hang the washing out on the line

扫地 sweep the floor

吸尘 vacuum

vacuum读作[ˈvækjuːm]，除了“真空”的意思外，还可以表示“（用真空吸尘器所做的）清洁，清扫”。而breadcrumbs读作[ˈbredkrʌmz]，意思是“面包屑”。

The kitchen floor needs vacuuming. There are breadcrumbs everywhere!

倒垃圾 take the rubbish out

擦灰 dust

这里的dust是指其动词，意思是“擦去...的灰尘”。例句中的dusting是将其名词化，表示“擦灰”这一活动。

买菜 go grocery shopping
