缅怀艾芙琳

   我悲伤地报告艾芙琳-奥斯威克去世的消息，她享年90岁，曾出现在《餐叉胜于手术刀》中，我很幸运地在电影拍摄中遇到过艾芙琳，发现她非常善良、亲切、优雅。 

   艾芙琳是艾塞尔斯廷最初研究心脏病时的患者之一，在逆转了心脏病以后，她成了一名热心的素食倡导者，也是一名受到爱戴的妻子、母亲、祖母、姐妹和朋友。她在约翰-卡罗尔大学担任过多年通信教授。 

   大约30年前，艾芙琳50多岁的时候两次心脏病发作，在做了血管成形术和三个搭桥以后，心脏病专家告诉她没法再为她做任何事情了，她可能活不过一年。她参加了艾塞尔斯廷博士在克里夫兰诊所的研究试验，戏剧性地逆转了她的晚期心脏病，又活了30年。 

   我记得第一次在电影里看到艾芙琳的情形，镜头让我流下了眼泪，因为她使我想起了我的祖母，她得了结肠癌预后严峻。我希望祖母能找到像艾芙琳这样更好地道路。感谢艾芙琳愿意分享她的故事，即使不是几百万，世界上也有成百上千的人将采取措施避免生活中被慢性疾病夺去生命的悲剧。

   艾芙琳将活在每个被她的故事激励的人的心中，很多人在艾芙琳身上得到了灵感，改变健康状况活了下来，现在享受着丈夫或妻子的陪伴、庆祝生日、或与孙子玩耍。这是一项非常美妙的遗产，也是我们想歌颂她的生活的原因。

In Memoriam: RememberingEvelyn Oswick

I am sad to report thatEvelyn Oswick, who appeared in Forks Over Knives, passed away at90. I feel fortunate to have met Evelyn during filming, and I foundher kind, sweet, and gracious.

Evelyn was one of Dr.Caldwell Esselstyn’s patients in his original heart disease study.After reversing her heart disease, she became a passionate advocatefor a plant-based diet. She was also a beloved wife, mother,grandmother, sister, and friend. For many years, she was acommunications professor at John CarrollUniversity.

About 30 years ago, Evelynsuffered two heart attacks while in her fifties. After anangioplasty and a triple bypass, her cardiologist told her therewas nothing more he could do for her and that she wouldn’t live outthe year. Then she joined Dr. Esselstyn’s research study at theCleveland Clinic, dramatically reversed her advanced heart disease,and lived for another thirty years.

I remember when I sawEvelyn on film for the first time. The footage brought me to tearsbecause she reminded me of my grandmother and the grim prognosisshe received for colon cancer. I only wish my grandmother had foundthe better path as Evelyn had. Thanks to Evelyn’s willingness toshare her story, hundreds of thousands—if not millions—of peoplearound the world will take the steps to avoid a life madetragically difficult or cut short by chronicdisease. 

Evelyn will live on througheach and every person that is inspired by her story. There are somany people out there who found inspiration in Evelyn, turned theirhealth and lives around, and are now enjoying a husband’s or wife’scompany, celebrating a birthday, or playing with a grandchild.That’s quite a wonderful legacy and the reason we want to celebrateher life.
