Today I want to talk about linking sounds

今天我想讲一下美式发音连读技巧

That's where one word ends with a consonant

一个词以辅音结尾

And the word after it begins with a vowel

下个单词以元音开头

So a, e, i, o, or u

就是a，e，i，o，或u

Now when this happens,

这种情况下

we usual combine the sound of this consonant

我们通常把这个辅音的发音

And this vowel together

和元音的发音组合也可以说融合在一起

So a few examples of this

举几个例子

The sentence would be

这个句子是

This is Mike

我是迈克

So obviously somebody named Mike

很明显有人叫迈克

But now 'this' ends with S, a consonant

但现在“this”以S结尾，S是一个辅音

'is' begins with I, a vowel

“is”以元音I开头，I是一个元音

So we put those two together and say 'this's'

所以我们把这个辅音和元音，放在一起说“这是”

So it's one word 'This's Mike'

所以只有一个词“这是迈克”

And after that, another example

接着，再举另一个例子

'That's a dog'

“那是只狗”

So again, ends with 's', a consonant

同样，以s结尾，一个辅音

'A', a vowel

“A”，一个元音

So we say 'That‘s a dog'

所以我们说“那是条狗”

Another one

还有一个例子

'What are you doing?'

“你在干什么？”

So 'what' ends with T, a consonant

所以“what”以T结尾，一个辅音

'Are' begins with a, a vowel

“Are”以a开头，一个元音

So that becomes 'What're you doing?'

所以就变成了“你在干什么？”

'What are you doing?' = 'What're you doing?'

“你在干什么？”“你在干什么？”

One last example would be

最后一个例子是

'Where are you going?'

“你要去哪里？”

Now 'where' ends with e

现在“where”以e结尾，一个元音结尾

But the “e” is silent at the end

但是e在结尾是不发音的

Therefore, we have the consonant sound of 'r'

因此，我们有辅音“r”

'Where are you going?'

“你要去哪里？”

So 'are' begins with a, a vowel

所以“are”以a开头，一个元音

So that becomes 'Where're you going?'

所以就变成了“你要去哪里？”
