Taking Leave and Working Overtime
(After several years of loyal service, Andrea is meeting with Mr. Johnson, the CEO of Innovative Inc., to discuss a promotion)
Andrea: What would you like to discuss with me, Mr. Johnson?
Mr. Johnson: Andrea, it seems like only yesterday when I was interviewing you for the advertising associate position. And since that time, your performance has exceeded my wildest expectations.
Andrea: Thank you, Mr. Johnson. I always try to do my best.
Mr. Johnson: And I really appreciate your efforts. You have managed numerous successful campaigns for international corporations, and developed strong business relationships with many leaders in the industry. Your reputation among your colleagues and clients is of the highest order.
Andrea: Why, thank you! I'm so flattered!
Mr. Johnson: An opportunity to move up to a senior management position has become available and I want to offer you a promotion.
Andrea: Thank you, Mr. Johnson, but I couldn't consider leaving the creative department.
Mr. Johnson: You won't have to. The position is Innovative Inc.'s creative director. You will be in charge of the creative department.
Andrea: Oh, being head of the creative department is a dream come true.
Mr. Johnson: And of course, you will receive a significant payraise to reflect the increase in responsibilities. Will you accept the offer?
Andrea: Absolutely!
(Andrea is meeting with the creative department staff)
Andrea: Thank you all for coming. I would first like to express my gratitude for the effort put in by each and every one of you during the past three months. The social media campaign has been a huge success primarily due to everyone's dedication.
Jeremy: Thank you, Andrea. That is very kind of you.
Andrea:Now that the heat is off, and to show my appreciation, I have a suggestion. I think it would be a good time for everyone to take a few days of personal leave.
Helen: That's a great idea. We all definitely need to recharge our batteries after having such a heavy workload.
Jeremy: What if we don't have any available leave?
Andrea:Then I suggest using any accumulated overtime hours.
Jeremy: That suits me.
Andrea:I also have an announcement. We will be employing some additional staff to make sure that we can all have a better work-life balance.
Helen: I'm so glad to hear that. I don't want to work too much overtime because I have family commitments.
Jeremy: Same here. I worked 20 hours of overtime last month.
Andrea:I understand completely. In the past, it was unavoidable because we didn't have the manpower, but that isabout to change.
请假与加班

安德里亚:谢谢大家的到来。首先我想感谢过去三个月间你们每一位所付出的努力。主要因为有每一个人的奉献投入这次的社群媒体活动才获得了空前的成功。
杰里米: 安德里亚，谢谢你。你人真好。
安德里亚:既然这热潮已过，而且为了表示我的感谢，我有个提议。我认为现在是各位可休几天事假的好时机。
海伦: 那真是个好主意。在这么繁重的工作量后我们绝对需要充电恢复精力。
杰里米: 如果我们没有可休的假该怎么办？
安德里亚:那么我建议使用加班累积的时数。
杰里米: 我正好可以。
安德里亚:我还要宣布一件事。我们将会雇用一些额外的人手来确保我们在工作及生活上都能有更好的平衡。
海伦: 我很高兴得知这个消息。因为我有家庭责任所以我不希望加太多班。
杰里米: 我也是。我上个月加班了 20 小时。
安德里亚: 我完全了解。过去，因为我们没有人力所以无可避免，但这情况即将会有所改变。
赖世雄老师，男，1948年出生于南京，祖籍广西永淳，赖老师最高学历是在美国明尼苏达大学修得大众传播与英语教学双硕士学位，以及博士班研究。
曾多次担任国际性逐步及同步口笔译，1998年创立《常春藤解析英语杂志社》，出版专业性的英语学习杂志与丛书，曾在十多家知名广播电台担任英语教学节目主讲。2003年3月创立《赖世雄智网文教机构》，致力研发儿童美语教材，拓展儿童美语教学加盟事业，期将英语教育从小扎根。
2003年10月31日《中国图书商报》评选“英语学习的风云人物”，赖世雄老师被评为中国十大名师之一。2013年9月, 赖世雄受邀回广西家乡参与桂台合作论坛, 并与大陆高校合作办学, 并于家乡南宁成立'南宁北极熊咨询有限公司', 将台湾的出版与英语教学系统复制到内陆, 嘉惠广大英语学习者与学生。
