as well as 的用法

一、结构 A as well as B 常被当作比较从属连词，用来连接两个对等的成分，意为“不但…而且；既…又…；不仅…还有…”，语义的重点是 A，相当于 not only B but also A，两者强调的重点刚好倒过来，翻译的时候一定要注意，例如：

连接名词或名词短语：

She can play tennis as well as basketball. 

她既会打篮球，又会打网球。

解析：此句相当于 She can play not only basketball but also tennis.

Women, as well as men, have the right to work.

不仅男人们还有女人们有权利工作。

解析：此句相当于 Not only men but also women have the right to work.

连接形容词：

The child is lively as well as healthy. 

这孩子既健康又活泼。

解析：此句相当于 The child is not only healthy but also lively.

He is disorganised as well as rude.

他既没有条理又粗鲁。

解析：此句相当于 He is not only rude but also disorganized.

连接介词短语：

This publicity cuts both ways. It focuses on us as well as on them. 

这种宣传有利也有弊。它不但关注我们而且关注他们。

解析：此句相当于 It focuses not only on them but also on us.

We have a responsibility to our community as well as to our families.

我们不但对社会而且对家庭都有责任。

解析：此句相当于 We have a responsibility not only to our families but also to our community.

二、as well as 有时还可译为“除…之外，还”，与 besides, in addition to 的用法相似。例如：

As well as learning to swim he has been taking Spanish lessons this summer. 

今年夏天，除了学习游泳外，他还在上西班牙语课。

As well as walking, he likes fishing and shooting. 

除散步之外，他还喜欢钓鱼和打猎。

As well as trying to master the Chinese language, Mr Zuckerberg has entertained China’s chief censor at his San Francisco home.

除了努力学习中文，扎克伯格还在旧金山的家中款待中国审查机构负责人。

三、当 as well as 后面加动词时，有以下几种情况形式

1、as well as 被视为复合介词，后面跟动名词，例如：

She manages the budget as well as ordering the equipment.

她既负责预算又订购设备。

解析：此句不能改为 She manages the budget as well as she orders the equipment，因为 as well as 不是真正意思上的连词，不能连接两个并列分句。

2、如果主句谓语为复合时态(即其中含有情态动词或助动词)，则 as well as 后的动词通常要与情态动词或助动词后的动词形式保持一致。

A teacher should entertain as well as teach.

教师既要教书，又要娱乐。

解析：此句主句的谓语动词为情态动词 + 动词，所以 as well as 后面用动词原形。

I have to feed the animals as well as look after the children. 

我不但要照顾孩子们，而且还要喂那些马。

解析：此句主句的谓语动词为 have to + 动词原形，所以 as well as 后面用动词原形。

3、如果 as well as 连接两个不定式时，as well as 后接不带 to 的不定式，例如：

A museum should aim to entertain as well as educate. 

博物馆不仅要有教育性还且还要有娱乐性。

We cannot expect her to do the homework as well as look after the children. 

我们不能指望她既做作业又照看孩子。

三、 注意与 as … as 结构的区分

试比较以下两句：

She draws as well as designing clothes.

她既画又设计衣服。

She draws as well as she designs clothes.

她画画和设计衣服一样好。

解析：第一句是 as well as 的引申意义，第二句是 as … as 结构，表示同级的比较，意为“和…一样”。

四、as well as 连接二个主语时，谓语的数要和第一个名词一致，从这个意义上讲， as well as 并不是真正意义上的连词，例如：

John as well as Mary wants to drop the course.

不仅玛利亚还有约翰想放弃这门课。

解析：此处 want 的谓语的数要跟着第一个主语 John，所以用 wants。

Tom as well as his parents is going to London. 

不仅汤姆的父亲还有汤姆打算去伦敦。

解析：此处 be 的谓语的数要跟着第一个主语 Tom，所以用 is。

其实为了避免弄错谓语的数，可以用逗号把 as well as 隔开，例如：

The principal, as well as the teachers, was called for the meeting.

不仅老师还有校长被召去开会。

五、当用 as well as 连接三个并列成分时，可用 A and B as well as C 或 A as well as B and C，但不能用 A, B as well as C，此时谓语的数还是要跟着 as well as 前面的主语，例如：

She and he as well as I hate the movie.

不仅我还有她和他讨厌这个电影。

六、as well as 连接人称代词的主格和宾格时，句意不同，例如：

Chunk helped you as well as me.

查克不仅帮了我，还帮了你。

Chunk helped you as well as I.

查克帮了你，我也帮了你。
