并列句中的省略

在以and,but,or或分号等连接的并列句中，后一分句中与前一分句的相同部分经常被省略。

例如：

She sang and（she）played the piano.（省略主语）

John won't go but I will（go）.（省略主动词）

You could have come and （you could have ）told me.（省略主语和助动词）

Perhaps I can't write good music and（I）will never be able to（do so）.（省略主语和不定式短语）

有时也可省略前一分句中与后一分句的相同部分。

例如：

Mother peeled（the onions）and chopped the onions.（省略宾语）

Either West Germany（will win the World Cup）or Holland will win the World Cup.（省略谓语）

Their ship sailed up（the river）and a raft floated down the river.（省略介词宾语）
