Education authorities in eastern China’s Jiangxi province have asked schools to scrap closed-loop campus management and let students move about freely, jxnews.com reported.
“To prevent the spread of the virus, schools should come up with guidelines specific to their situations,” according to an announcement from the provincial education bureau. “Students with safety codes and temperature checks should be able to enter or leave schools freely.”

Several colleges in Jiangxi have since complied with the education bureau’s decree. Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies said Thursday that students can enter or leave campus as long as they have valid student IDs and consent to temperature checks.

Responding to remarks on the internet concerning restrictions on campus, the education bureau explained that there are differences between closed-off management and strict management at school entrances.
While the former means no one is allowed to leave the campus unless extreme circumstance arises, the latter permits the flow of students and staff members as long as everyone’s health situation is monitored, said Wang Dengfeng, head of the epidemic control and prevention office at the education bureau.
Students and faculty members are being encouraged not to leave the campus for nonessential travel and avoid mass gatherings, but if they do leave the campus then ID checks, body temperature checks and registration are required at the school gates, Wang said.
