In 2008, Cameron Diaz was one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, earning a reported $50 million for her roles in Shrek and What Happens In Vegas. But following her last film in 2014, Annie, the actress revealed that she had retired from her career as an actress. She was focusing her attention elsewhere.
Fans were stunned by the news, especially since Cameron was still making bank - she made $42 million for starring in the 2011 comedy, Bad Teacher. But according to Diaz, it wasn’t about the millions she was earning; she simply didn’t feel fulfilled doing her job anymore, and after 20 years of working in the film industry, Diaz says she felt ready to move on.
And though she’s not ruling out a potential comeback down the line, Cameron is busy being a mother to her daughter, Raddix. Cameron's daughter was born in January of 2020, five years after she tied the knot with her longtime partner, Benji Madden.

Start NowJust one year after going public with their relationship in 2014, Cameron and Benji shocked their friends and family by marrying on January 5, 2015. Not everyone was informed about their nuptials - nor were invitations sent out - but according to sources, it was a very intimate ceremony.
Diaz has gushed about being able to spend quality time with her family, now that her schedule isn’t packed with filming dates. Interestingly enough, the former actress doesn’t miss her day job and thinks that, after twenty years of working in Hollywood, she’s earned the right to spend quality time with the ones closest to her (and rightfully so).
On January 3, 2020, Cameron and Benji made yet another surprise announcement - they had welcomed a baby girl named Raddix Madden. And while people were once again stunned as to how the couple was able to keep the news under the radar, fans were quick to congratulate the blonde beauty on her bundle of joy.
It appears as if writing books is something that Cameron has a newfound passion for, having previously penned 2013’s “The Body Book” before releasing its follow-up, “The Longevity Book”, just three years later.
The Bad Teacher star tackles several topics in both publications, including body issues, self-confidence, ageism, and more.
Cameron shared a mini-reunion with her The Sweetest Thing co-stars, Selma Blair and Christina Applegate, with Entertainment Weekly in 2018.
During that special event, she confirmed having retired from the movie industry, stressing how her focus has changed from filming movies to simply enjoying life with her husband - and given the money she’s made, why shouldn’t she just enjoy life?
Diaz is well aware that ageism is still alive and well in Hollywood - particularly for women, whom she says struggle to find work once they are 40. It's just harder to land roles at that age.
'You can't play 25 anymore,' she said. 'You can't play 70. And to start considering yourself in a position where you have to go, 'I'll play the mom!' or 'the woman in transition [from one stage of life to another]'—well, where are the stories about those women in transition?...We're all still stuck.”
In 2017, Cameron attended her friend Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Wellness Summit, where she admitted that leaving her acting career behind was tremendously important for her. She didn’t feel connected with the work she was doing and knew that she wanted to at least have a break, which quickly turned into retirement.
'I just went, 'I can't really say who I am to myself,' which is a hard thing to face up to,' she gushed.
Even though Cameron prefers to stay out of the limelight these days, she didn’t let a chance to take a photo with Adele and Jennifer Lawrence pass her by. The pic was taken at the Los Angeles Women’s March in January 2018, where Cameron was joined by both Hollywood stars. It doesn't come as a shock to find out that they are all close friends.

After she retired, Cameron started using her Instagram to keep her millions of fans up to date with what she was working on. Though she doesn’t use the social media platform too often, when Diaz does have something to share, it’s usually to do with health or well-being. She also posts quotes about wisdom.
In November of 2016, Cameron urged her fans to vote, after posting a selfie of herself sporting an “I Voted” sticker. For her caption, she wrote: “I voted today for the country I want to live in... a country where there is equality, inclusion, acceptance, and freedom that EVERY American deserves... Please go out and vote for the America you want to live in..”
Believe it or not, Cameron and Nicole Richie became the best of friends right after being introduced through their husbands. As most are already aware, Cameron is married to Benji, who is the brother of Joel Madden. Joel’s been married to Nicole since 2010. Sources say that Cameron and Richie are so close that they even enjoy girls’ trips together.
Cameron Diaz previously admitted that she’s very interested in launching something to do with health and wellness, having already written two books about health and taking care of your body. She’s said to be inspired by Gwyneth’s Goop brand. While Cameron may launch a business of her own in the future, fans have yet to hear about it.

When the actress fielded questions concerning her acting career and when she plans on returning to the big screen, Diaz made no secret of the fact that she’s not looking to get back in front of the camera. She’s even said that there’s nothing about the filmmaking industry that she misses
Cameron is happy to be living a quieter lifestyle with her family.
Diaz says that since retiring from her day job, she’s been working on building better relationships with her friends. Of course, it would have been hard for her to maintain friendships when she was filming in different locations. Cameron says that she now has so much time on her hands, she’s learning to reconnect with those closest to her, but on a much deeper level.

While the blonde beauty has no plans to return to the big screen anytime soon, Cameron has previously admitted that if the right project came along, she would consider it. But again, it’s not a priority of hers to get back to acting. She’s made enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her life, so if she does make a comeback in the future, it’ll have to be for the right reasons - not for the sake of money.
