Iyengar yoga is a style of Hatha Yoga created and taught by the Indian yoga masters Iyengar (K.B.S Iyengar), and named after his name. It is based on principles of Ashtanga yoga, with an emphasis on improving stamina, flexibility, concentration, and balance. Meditation is closely intertwined with the asanas. Iyengar yoga is a particularly good form of yoga for beginners, because so much emphasis is placed on the best possible alignment of the body for all the asanas. Iyengar yoga uses props to help the student, independent of their capabilities or limitations, reach the desired asana. Emphasis on correct body alignment allows the body to develop symmetrically while minimizing risk of pain or injury. Poses is hold longer in Iyengar Yoga, for that, higher levels of strength, flexibility, healing and awareness can be reached when more time is spent in each asana. During this time, students reach new levels of consciousness while practicing yoga.
艾扬格系统有其独立的教师培训体系。申请者需要跟随艾扬格的授权老师，完成至少3年的艾扬格瑜伽练习，并且保持每日自我练习和出席每周3节艾扬格瑜伽课的练习习惯。有其教师完成全面而严格的评估才可以开始进入教师培训。初级阶段教师培训为两年，完成第一年的培训通过考试后得以继续第二年的培训，完成全部两年的培训才有资格开始教学。因此，拥有艾扬格教师资格的老师都是积累了多年的习练经验，教师可以快速识别学生的个人需求，并确定使用哪些辅具和如何使用。严格的教师培训制度也让持有艾扬格教师资质的老师供不应求。
